I found this poem very interesting but also very sad and scary. So many people seem to be in this awful situation.

It IS scary. People are damaging children?s lives, and mental abuse is just as damaging as physical.
    Thanks for your review

This was a good read, Bucketlist. Not all abuse is physical as you note in this poem so articulately. And sometimes its scars are even more harmful. The physical can be treated more so than the mental ones. Nice job.

That?s what makes developmental abuse so damaging and hard to treat/prove. Thanks for reviewing ,

All true I fear - I've known a number of person who were affected by mental abuse especially - afraid to break the marriage vows for example and yet being ridiculed. One friend's mother called her names and mentally abused her.
It's a shame.
Good poem - and look at the problem.

Hi Gail, unfortunately by choice, I stayed in a mentally abusive marriage, afraid to do the break the vows thing. It?s a realty that many face. Thank you for your kind review

What a sad topic! But it is one that needs to be addressed. There are many children and adults that suffer psychological or physical abuse, sometimes for years.
BTW, Have you read The Wife Between Us? It deals with this topic.
Thanks for sharing.

A very well-written heartfelt poem about the hidden abuse. Some abusers are very clever and will not leave evidence for the world to see. They abuse one mentally without visible scars.

You write with the voice of experience in this poem, or else you have a very good grasp on the situation in some homes. Hugs and best wishes to you. I know these damaging feelings from a relationship I became intimidated and demeaned in, but luckily escaped from. Good on you for writing a powerful poem about these shameful behaviours that need to be called to account.

Mental abuse is much harder to spot and can be just as damaging, the abusers are smart and blame their victim for their own inadequacies and this can be hard to bear. I have felt this kind of abuse from a close relative who manipulated others to think unkind thoughts about me. But some saw through his attempts. It is a form of bullying, and your write uncovers these deeds here, love Dolly x

You just described my first marriage TO A TEE!, which I
thought would last forever, but it got dangerous, and I had no choice. Your poem is an important take of what unseen abuse looks like inside the house, where no one else can see.
Great write. I hope you didn't experience this, but I fear you did.
Blessings, friend!

Tina

good for you, I stayed and regretted it long term, it?s been a long private self growth road, but I?m okay.

I understand. I stayed way longer than I should have, but ya know...you keep trying to make it work somehow. I am happy to hear you are okay.
Blessings, Hope you keep on that road and do well:)

Not all people should be parents. When parents choose to emotionally abuse their child, it does make me wonder about THEIR role model because history does repeat itself. This is a well-written poem that should be placed in a book called, "Before you Decide to be a Parent".
