This poem reminds us that one should not take things for granted in any relationship. Love is a give and take and not one ruling over the other.
It is to late to change things when one has left. The advice to never go to bed mad is advice everyone should follow. Then sleep will come with less regrets.

All good.
A beautiful poem mate, that goes a way to telling the story of a love of longevity. Lots of give and take...plenty of shitting the other bloke off haha...but many many nights spooning and canoodling when the kids aren't around, or are asleep haha
Your dedication to your writing and the love of your life is inspirational but good to know you can go out of the box now and again and write from the dog house haha

    Wow P it's great to hear from you. I fell asleep on the lounge and have just woken up and its heading for 2 am and I come over to the lappy and the first thing I see is an exceptional from my fave poet I am over the moon You have made my early morning with a morning glory Thank You
    I am sure we have all gone through those lows in Marriage but we soldier on hey.

Congratulations on this beautifully written, but tragic piece. I'm so sorry if you or someone close to you has experienced the pain of separation/ a divorce. It's such a sad thing that two people who professed to love each other so deeply at one time can be so at odds.

    Dear Abby,
    No fortunately its not about me but sadly there are many couples out there who have or are experiencing break ups and divorces. Sometimes I think people give up too easily at the first sign of conflict and not try and see it through Maybe it's this modern throw away world we live in or its just that throw away society when things become a challenge.
    I am sure these long marriages we read about are not always smooth and sunny and they have had the beautiful highs and terrible heartbreaking lows but They have fought the storm together and worked those indifference's and hardships out.

Wise words, Dip. Hindsight is a marvellous thing! As you say, familiarity breeds contempt, or if not contempt, then carelessness. Fires need constantly to be refuelled if they are to keep on giving out heat. Love is much the same.
