So someone at last has filed a claim that not all rules are followed and the known get noted and the unknown is the dark horse. :) Thank you for writing this sonnet you had me almost in tears but mostly angry. I also write reviews to get to write what I like. This is a good entry for the Write a Lament contest.

Thank you for the fantastic review and the huge sixer, Poetwatch. Oh, I've spoken my mind about this many times before. I usually do my ranting poetically, Lol. It's just a shame we pay the extra money for the works to get policed before hand and then a piece that didn't follow simple syllable count rules gets to go to booth and sometimes even win. I think everyone who did adhere to the rules should get their money back if that happens. But we all know that will never happen. So the best I can do is gripe about it. Haha. I really appreciate the generous stars and good luck wishes, PW. I'm glad you liked the piece. Thank you again.

A very well-written sonnet about the loss before we even started entering a contest when the rules are misunderstood or not understand it you cannot claim it back and the chance to win is one out of several.

Very well portrayed here the ups and downs and ins and outs of aspiring to be a writer and the setbacks when our 'masterpiece' fails to make it - well done

A very nicely written sonnet, DS. You've presented the argument in the first two stanzas, and the volta, change in the third and concluded with a fine couplet.

I hope the voting booth contests are all well as your fine entry seems to meet all the requirements.

Best of luck to you with the voting. :)

Thank you for the great review, Gloria. I just had to do a little ranting again, lol. We all pay the extra money for policing and I know some folks make mistakes, but there are times I wonder if the entries were even looked at. If it was a hard form I could understand but when it's something as simple a 5-7-5 or a 1-6-1 or a nonet, a piece not adhering to the syllable count rules shouldn't be aloud to win a contest that everyone else has paid their hard earned five dollars for to enter. That's where this silly piece is coming from. I really appreciate the gracious stars, G. Thank you again.

A literate, and quite literal, lament on a most lamentable fact of FS competition. The answer is no; how could we forget all those bitter tears?

Very nicely done!

Lol. Thank you for the fantastic review and the giant sixer, Don. Yes, it is quite damaging when this sad injustice occurs. But I'm sure it won't be the last time. I just think if a piece not adhering to the rules wins a contest, everyone who did play by the rules should get their money back. We know that will never happen though, haha. I really appreciate the generous rating, Don. Thank you again. Have a great night.

That picture is stunning and grabbed my attention right away. I wasn't sure if this was really a contest entry because the subject matter was contest entries. It is irony at it's best! The lack of truth in a contest makes you cry, so you put your truth into a contest that does not have truth.
I haven't entered many contests due to the genius on here, lol...it has nothing to do with how the contests are run.
Good luck in the contest, if this is a sincere entry...I'm a little confused...

Lol. No, I'm just poetically ranting, Tina. Sometimes there are entries that make it to the booth and do quite well when they shouldn't have been because they didn't adhere to the rules, like word or syllable count. So I'm just griping that it's a loss of entrants money when a piece not adhering to the rules wins. I'm just ranting, haha. Thank you for the great review, Tina. Have a great day.

This was a good write. I thought you really captured the good and bad of the contests. It's tough to pay the money for what ultimately is nothing. But good job and good luck in the contest.

I have not suffered such indignities in contests I have entered, but perhaps I have been very fortunate. Your lament does arouse our sympathy. I like how you chose the Sonnet format to state your case. Your meter and rhyme scheme are flawless.

Dear Mystery Poet,

I think that overall the CEC does a rather good job, but I agree that sometimes they do miss things. *smile* It can get frustrating, but remember, you are welcome to create your own contest and monitor it yourself! hahaha!

Good luck!

Thank you for the great review, Robyn. I agree, they do a pretty good job most of the time. I can see where mistakes can be made but when it's something as simple as 1-6-1 or a 5-7-5, I see no reason that a piece outside of those boundaries should win in a contest when it should have been disqualified. So I have to go poetically rant about it. Haha. The sad part is, if we create our own contests that we monitor then no one gets disqualified if they don't adhere to the rules. It's only disqualified when we pay the committee to police the entries. If they mess up and don't catch something and a piece wins that didn't adhere to the rules, we don't get our extra money back like we should. But like you said, they don't miss too much stuff. I really appreciate the generous stars and good luck wishes, Robyn. Have a great day.

No, no, no. Absolutely pieces DO get disqualified if we monitor our own contests. If you contact Tom and let him know (after you've contacted the author and given them time to correct, just as the CEC does) he will remove it from the judging. Well - actually it will show up in the judging I think - maybe, but it won't be available for voting on, or something like that. But you are absolutely in charge. I promise.
