Love it - and the picture with it. We had two doxies - each living about 16 years - they sure make their mark on your family - your heart. But...taking them out in the middle of the night - or trying to get them to do their business in a hurry.! Well, that's hard. Good poem. I did like it.
We live in snowy country - and this was a really full-of-snow year - but our small havanese dog likes it when he can walk on crusty snow - and choose a clean area to do his job.

What a cute poem Earl... reminds me about why I like cat's instead of dogs. Not that I don't like dogs mind you, it's just that it's so much more to do to take care of them. You have to go out and walk them in the snow. The cat can go in the litter box and you can stay inside where it's warm! I'm so sorry that you lost your little dog. My cat is now 18 years old and I'm dreading the day... she's my baby. :(

The hurt piece to this is we had to put our cat of 15 years, Moe, down the week before. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review my work.

This poem, Ode to Dinky, though you chose a slow-to-poop scene as representative of this pet, reminds us all of those loving, protective animals who share our lives as kin. Here's a six for Dinky.

This ultra-concise rhyming poem pays a moving tribute to a beloved
pet by describing a common scenario involving pet and owner/friend.
Seventeen--WOW!

Hello, Earl.
I feel your pain and am so sorry for your loss.
It's so sad, I feel, when our beloved pets grow old and pass away.
Our dogs, cats and other of God's creatures both great and small who become our lifelong companions are far more then "just animals."
They are as much a part of our family as is anyone else.
I have a seventeen-year-old Chihuahua I took in because she was orphaned and no one wanted her.
Her name is Gidget and she has been my best friend. We have been through quite a bit together and, without fail, she has always been there for me through the good and the bad.
Well penned poem
Best wishes to you in the contest.

Thank you Dean. Gidget looks cute. I agree our pets are family. What made this hard was we had to put our cat of 15 years, Moe, down the week before. I appreciate you taking the time to read and review my work.

A fine tribute to a great friend! Among those reasons I am a believer in a supreme power is "love". We can feel love and animals can feel and exhibit love. Love is not clinical, it is us and our animals share the same. Good write.

Awww this is so sweet, your notes and the poem together - what a sweet boy, and they certainly are so loyal. I wish you luck with your farewell to this sweet companion - God bless,

It brought a lump to my throat to read about your loss, (and also your cat recently I see in an answer to another reviewer). That is painful for you, but you have found the humor in the situation of Dinky being on Dinky-time when subjecting you to the cold.
