WEll, this was a very unique and creative take on the subject. A train of thought can go rhrough all sorts of hills and valleys and then still not reach any specific destination. This is especially true as we get older! This was a fun read.

Thank you. I'm happy you like it. Sometimes my train of thought leaves the station before I get there. lol

Well, this is a GREAT train, Yvonne -- if you were looking for originality, you got it.... it's also quite different that your usual writes, even your free verses, ... lines are shorter and lead the reader along rather that 'painting and showing' as you usually do.... that is not a complaint so PLEASE don't take it as one...simply an observation. I'm going with the thought that, perhaps, it was your way of 'illustrating' the train on the narrow tracks...that was great if that was your desire here...might have even been 'fun' if the last few lines got progressively further and further off-center to demonstrate that train running off those tracks...LOL! :) ;) Thank you so much for sharing this unique one and for sharing your poetic prowess with everyone! :) ;) Yvette

Bless your heart. What a wonderful review. I'm so happy you like it. I don't know where the idea for a train of thought came from, but it was what popped in my mind. At least, I got it written down. Sometimes, my train of thought leaves the station without me. lol

I broke from a train of thought to come over and review this. Your point, exactly. I enjoyed this as writing is fundamentally dependent on this train and catching it before it leaves the station.
All my best,

Thank you. I think my train of thought leaves the station without me sometimes. LOL

A very well-written free verse poem about the train of thoughts that we usually have when we start to write a poem and sometimes the trains has lots to deliver and other times there are not much.

This concise poem about "trains" of thought is very well-written and thought-
provoking to me because I find myself using the expression frequently--sometimes
with no CLEAR idea of exactly how I mean it! Your poem cover the best definitions.

Thank you for that. I found that many times, my train of thought left the station before I could catch it. I can't blame age - it's been that way all my life. I guess I'm a scatterbrain. lol

Being old enough to remember the steam trains (they are what spring to mind whenever the word is mentioned), I am always looking for that underpinning chuff chuff rhythm in a poem that mentions them. Yes, even when the train, like this one is used in another sense altogether. And oh joy! It is here, I hear it in the rhythms of the poem achieved more by word choice, 'subconscious, rushing, distraction and abstraction are as much steam-engine noises as Casey Jones was as steam engine's engineer.
Someone somewhere taught you what good free verse was. I am very pleased to say!

I wonder who that was? You a such a good teacher, and I'm delighted if I'm a good example of that. Thank you for this wonderful review, Jim. From you, it really means a lot! I remember the steam trains, too. Until my uncle passed away in 2014, we always had lunch and then watch DVDs of trains. Sometimes, they were trips, and sometimes, how they were repaired in the old days. I can't explain why, but I love that sound when the wheels are slipping on the track. I miss those Sundays!!!

With me it's the smell -- oil, steam and coal -- magic.

Yes, that, too. I saw some of the 'old-timers' say they took the romance out of engineering when they lost the steam engines.

Well done, Yvonne. Nice presentation--I love the picture and the colors. I think it can be all those things. However a thought is birthed in the mind, you grow wiser by studying it, analyzing it, and attempting to learn from it. That's how young children learn; it's the natural way. :)

Thank you. You are so right. But sometimes, when my train of thought has been interrupted, I lose it altogether. 8-)

Oh, me too! I'm a total scatterbrain! LOL!

Something that has occasionally bugged me is a dream...I have a storyline or a plan of action and I just know it is absolutely brilliant...then I wake up and it's gone.
Yes, I agree, a train of thought is appropriate to the prompt. Excellent post.

I know what you mean about that absolutely brilliant idea. I have them sometimes, but they get away before I can get them down. lol
Thank you so much for reviewing.
