Excellent poem that speaks volumes. I am the mother of four adopted children, and I appreciate so much the birth mothers who chose to let someone else raise the babies they felt they couldn't support. Yes, they had a choice, and thank God they made the right choice. Thank you so much for voicing what many of us feel so strongly. You did an excellent job and congratulations for the first place ribbon. MM

This poem brought life to the 'fetus.' You did extremely well in representing the fetus as a live human baby with thoughts and feelings. Your skillfully crafted poem made me 'feel.'
I loved your author notes.
You did a really good job with this, and I know what a difficult subject it is.
Great contest entry!!

Thank you Gale. The fetus if left to live becomes you or me until it killed.

Oy. This is a tremendously well-written piece, poetwatch, that get to the disgusting underbelly of what has been dressed up as 'a woman's right to choose.' I applaud your (a) talent and (b) courage to take this on. You did it eloquently. xo

We seem to be of like mind on this issue too. It is not my place to judge, but it IS my place to speak my beliefs in hopes of changing hearts.

What a wonderful poem you've penned. Though it evokes the most horrible imagery, there is beauty too. "A heart that beat a lovely sound" and "It tried to say..." Very poignant and powerful.

Best of luck in the contest.

Thank you Dawn. It hurt to write but it had to be said.

This beautiful, heart-wrenching poem vividly and movingly addresses an issue
over which there is SUCH controversy. The Bible makes it crystal clear WHEN life
begins. God has known all individuals who ever lived from the time BEFORE their conception. When people remove the Bible from the equation, they just decide
for themselves . . . ! Your poem is excellent.

Good luck in the contest Jose. You created powerful words in both your poem and your narrative. There was also a deep sense of sadness in what you wrote. Sadness at the reality of life and death.

Thank you Alie. I was angry because a child is killed before seeing life and sad because people are afraid to touch the subject.

This poem reads well and flows quite nicely. It hooks the reader and draws attention. The subject is sensitive but I think you handled it well. The topic of abortion and killing children should never be taken lightly and this poem addresses the issue sincerely and the emotions can be felt. I understand this poem was written in opposition to April Fools? Is that right? It shows how there are more serious issues we need to be dealing with in our societies than celebrating being foolish which we've gone much too far in in our world. You've made your points clear. Let's hope that love does win in the end and hope that society smartens up. Your poem is worthy to be shared and thought on with sincerity. Mass of mire going down the train is an interesting thought; I'm not sure I quite understand it so that might be something to include in your author notes as well. Best,

While the "rights" of a fetus are politicized and theorized and such...it occurs to me that the very act of considering "rights" precludes that we are talking about a living thing. Compelling poem--not all spruced up and made appropriate for consumption. I'll just say, as a retired RN, regardless of the fact I was not allowed to "influence" any patient regarding "reproductive options"--I was SICKENED by the way the medical profession squeezed all humanity out of the equation. The "patient" was told she would be taken in to the procedure room, the "tissue would be extracted"-- she would likely have mild cramping and some spotting--and would likely be discharged within three hours of the "procedure."--
You know...kind of like having a wart removed! I never worked on THAT floor--but would see women in the ER POST abortion due to their concerns about pain with cramping, clotting, or bleeding...I always wanted to say "Beats what you did to your child." Guess you know where I stand on this issue!--Excellent and important write---Karenina

Thank you Karenina. It was not meant to be pretty. A fetus is life.

Yes, perhaps I did n't make myself clear...but I was complimenting you on not making the taking of a life "pretty"--we agree.--Karenina

Thank you, dear poet. My comrade in arms for the right of the unborn! I loved that you used the story from the Bible of how Herod murdered all the babes two years and younger just trying to kill the prophesied King of Kings. A heartbeat is a life, made by God as you have stated. This is the truth that really cannot be ignored, yet fools still choose to do so. The abortion proponents will be so surprised when they stand before God with the innocent blood of unborn babies on their hands. What will they say then, I wonder? Superb. Enjoy you sixer!
All my best,
Sally

A very well-written heartfelt poem about the horrific saughtering of unborn children the past few years. It was suppose to be a matter of life and death before a fetus is aborted now it became the choice of human's right. Very sad and evil.
