Such a beautiful one-line offering for this contest -- your author notes are wonderful, but I, like you, had memories that were recalled with these words...almost like magic, I could hear those 'homilies' all over again! :) ;) Thank you for sharing and best of luck at the polls! :)

Every stich that fingers worn with glee make is love that family shares with one another. You are one of the lucky ones to have a mother that can knit and tell you your history in the process. Don't forget to tape her words that way you can pen them and knit the fabric so your children will know.

I agree with you that taping and recording oral family histories is a good idea. Unfortunately, my mum died when I was 15 (50 years ago) and I don't have children myself. That might be why I adore history so much, trying to feel linked in to other people's history.
