Outstanding commentary and I enjoyed the complete author's notes on the formation of the personality of the child. What were the creative use of birds this is balanced and great information for the reader.

Your poem has a very powerful message. The title is kind of pointed and harsh, not sure if it fits the words written or not. Good luck in the contest.

I think I had abusive parents by this scale...not all of the things but some..
I am grateful though because it made me look for God. I have been blessed with a wonderful man and father of my children, I promised to never do the things that my parents did
God bless

I like your poem. I believe you have points within your poem. Although the poem is short as it supposed to be I believe that there was more you could have put into it. With the topic being children I was ready for something powerful; something to make me think.

I had forgotten about April being the month for the prevention of child abuse. Your poem is a good reminder and the words are so true. Nice job and good luck in the contest.

This well-written, pull-no-punches poem vividly tells the truth about the long-range effects of child abuse--in all its monstrous forms. Child abusers are
opportunistic, evil . . . !

Yes, this is very well said in your short poem with big words to shout out the issue at hand. Very well written and you have displayed your emotions so well in this. I totally agree; as I child I was abused and neglected due to narcissistic parents so I know the feeling and how my life could have been had I been raised with the care they should have gave--this world is very upside down when it comes to proper treatment of child and it affects their entire lives aftewards--they can't raise themselves. Your words stir much emotion and hook the reader. I take the stand with you!! Good stand and appropriate words for this! Abuse is no doubt evil, right on.

Wow! I really like your appreciation of emotional content. I?m so sorry you suffered abuse.
To me, children have a right to be raised with love and protective caring. Personally, I see no excuse or justification to destroy an innocent child?s life. Animals don?t abuse their offspring like humans do. Thanks so much for your expressive review,

The abuse done unfortunately tends to be repeated. Part of the damage done is anger held in. But it comes out in behaviors learned from experience.

Good for you, keeping these abuses to the fore for readers to check their own behaviours as caregivers to the powerless. A lot of these actions happen from even non-narcissistic parents, and even in partners. I was in a relationship of bullying and emotional deprivation... like many people i could tick this chart of abuses experienced. But the lasting impact on our children, who should be safe from this with their own parents, is of major concern.

Yes, these are frequent behaviors in people. The damage done in a child?s development has terrible consequences, including rejection of self, even suicide. Thanks for your thoughtful review

Hi Bucket,

Exceptional contest entry, in my opinion. If schools would teach human growth and development and psych 101, I think a lot of this would stop. Thanks for sharing and good luck. Jan
