-This is a very good chapter, Tony.
-There is a peaceful mood with the
description of the pond, gardens, and trees.
-I like how you add the "nip in the air"
and then Sir David appears.
-The mood is tense, as Charles and
Brockenhurst/Bamborth face off.
-The name choices for B/B are quite
effective, and like Charles, I
don't trust him, either.
-He seems to be in a "game"
of one up-manship.
-He continues to throw things in
Charles's face, and he regards them
as threats and blackmail.
-I like the ending with the fly;
at least Charles rescued it, but could
have easily pretended it was B/B.

Hello Tony,
Well, like Charles, I wasn't expecting that either.
Of course, Wing Commander Bamforth didn't show any ID, now did he?
But he's well named, he certainly came Forth with a Bam
and he seems to know a great deal about Charles' recent activities.
But still, why does he need Charles to be a courier? If it is
"with no danger to yourself, or to anyone else."
Ah, the plot thickens, as well it should.
But at least the fly was rescued;
wonder who will rescue Charles?
Well done
Robert

    Thanks, Robert, for your review of 'At the RAF Club', and for the sixth star. There does seem little point in Charles being given the job of courier, unless he is being set up in some way. I'm surprised that he hasn't yet smelled a rat. All the best, Tony

How did I miss this one? It looks like Charles now has another problem, I'm betting he's cursing that letter he found. lol. At first, I wondered if Bamforth's new identity was yet another false one. But, we will see what happens at dinner. Well done, Tony, this story is becoming a huge mystery. :)) Sandra xx

    Thanks, Sandra, for your review of 'At the RAF Club'. The French letter seems to have got sidelined by the subplot again! All the best, Tony

Well that annoying Sir David or Bamforth or whatever Mr. Bombastic is, remains quite untrustworthy. Now he's not bribing, he's threatening. It looks like he has Charles in a bind.

Superb entry here as the plot continues to thicken and intrigue. love this story. the depth of plot and description are excellent.

(Clearly, he was at pains to emphasise the difference in rank.) - I'm not sure this needs to be bracketed given Charles is relaying the tale anyway.

Cheers, Tony;
> What a compassionate ending and one I think appropriately relative to the situation that Charles is in.
>Before I forget I the following is just a suggestion.
>"Just what are you suggesting?" Wouldn't insinuating be more appropriate?
>Yeah it seems like Sir David I think is working for MI5 Or some government Official organization.
> I don't think should David is giving Charles that much of an option. Also, I think David should think about it and utilize the situation into a beneficial outcome for himself, Or at least I would and maybe turn the tables in Charles's favor.
>Oh how the plot thickens and I'm so glad it is.
> Thanks for sharing, Tony, and take care and have a good one.

So Brockenhurst claims he's Wing Commander Bamforth of intelligence, but seems to know a lot about Charles, and that he was involved in a hit and run, which of course Charles claims innocence, and his supposed connection with drug dealing, indirect as it is. Bamforth claims that he will get Hom off and leaves him to make a decision, well done Tony, blessings, Roy

Omigosh! Charles is really in hot water now. Poor guy. How will he ever get out of this? That jerk Bamforth has him tied up pretty tight.

Sorry I'm so late reviewing. I just returned from a week in hospital.

    Sorry to hear that you've not been well, Yvonne. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery.
    It looks as if Charles is about to enter a whole new world of mayhem and intrigue.
    I guess that's the price to be paid for his idyllic sojourn in the English countryside! LOL
reply by damommy on 18-Mar-2019
    He should have stayed in England. Thank you for the good wishes. I'm getting better. I tried to treat myself, and ended up with a severe infection from bronchitis. I've learned my lesson. lol.

Wow, Tony, this story is getting better by the minute. Not only is it very well written but it;s also very well told. I love it. So Charles has been put in a tight corner. What the heck is really going on? I loved the last paragraph:
As I finished my drink, my eye was drawn to a hapless fly in Bamforth's almost untouched pink gin, now struggling for its life. In a moment of empathy, I dipped my finger into the glass and rescued it.
It kind of says it all. All best. Ulla:))

    Thanks, Ulla. That hapless fly seems to have appealed to a number of reviewers! The story is beginning to pick up pace now after a rather lengthy lull. I'm hoping to tie a few loose ends together in the next few chapters..

I thought this was one of the strongest chapters in a while. I loved how all this spy novel intrigue unfolded in the dialogue between Charles and Bamforth, and how Bamforth is blackmailing him into working for the intelligence community as a courier by threatening Charles with arrest for the cycle incident and his brush with the drug mafia through Durand. Will he be a help to Charles, or get him into trouble? I think lots of interesting prospects are on the horizon for this story now. estory
