Of course Sir David would be able to make up a badly injured cyclist an have blame put on Charles. You did a good job with this chapter, Tony. It reads well and at a quick pace. I liked the description of the gardens as Charles made his way to the RAF. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Thanks, Jan. During a car chase several chapters ago, Charles did cause a cyclist to fall off his bicycle but didn't actually hit him. It sounds as though Sir David wouldn't be beyond planting a couple of extra eye-witnesses to change the facts a little. LOL

A very well-written chapter. It seems sometimes that the secret agents who are supposed to protect us from the crooks are more dangerous than the crooks when they can turn anything in their favor and against you.

And up pops the devil, with another shady deal...I think America made a terrible mistake exposing, defaming and destroying the CIA...now when we truly need a strong, silent arm in the world as 'tis...excellent chapter, with new evil afoot...

I think you are right, Red. When they know that we know, it helps keep the bastards honest. A country needs a good intelligence organisation to keep it safe.

Your writing exudes a true familiarity with the area. I liked the imagery of flotillas of swans and greedy ducks. A well pointed juxtaposition of the Hard Rock Cafe and RAF Club.
The Wing Commander of Intelligence is a surprising reveal. He certainly won't take NO for an answer. He presses very hard. Quite the blackmailer.
The fly was equally a surprise, as well as a touch of incredulousness. A surprising chapter.

Thanks, Tom. It is an area that I used to know well, many years ago. Glad you enjoyed the hapless fly!

I think you are right. Charles is about to get into deep trouble if he doesn't watch out. I appreciate the award of a sixth star and am glad that I'm continuing to entertain you with this.

As I finished my drink, my eye was drawn to a hapless fly in Bamforth's almost untouched pink gin, now struggling for its life. In a moment of empathy, I dipped my finger into the glass and rescued it.
You get a six from me for this ending. It seems Brandon is the hapless fly that might need rescuing
Great writing
God bless

Hi, Jenny. I'm glad you enjoyed the rescue of the hapless fly. I hope he manages to dry his wings before the barman comes and sweeps him away with the empties! Thanks very much for the extra star. Appreciated, as always.

Isn't the plot thickening nicely? The descriptions and dialogue are all very credible. I don't have any suggestions to make. I like the finishing action of Brandon rescuing the fly.

Wow! A bit of a turn, here. The big boys are moving in. I can't decide if the Wing Commander is a goodie or a baddie. Is he some sort of Mafia himself? Good read and more excitement coming, I'm sure. No spags.

Many thanks for awarding this one a six. Much appreciated. It does begin to seem that Charles is getting involved in something larger than he first imagined. All the best, Tony

Oh, I do like that ending...rescuing the fly...the fly in the spider's web. How quaint to your character's mood at the moment! Now the reader's curiosity peaks. What next?

It doesn't seem to matter how many times I read through. There always seem to be a couple of typos that slip through. So obvious when they are pointed out! Thanks for your sharp eye. Best wishes, Tony
