Here on the hill it has been a tradition for cats to burrow at high speed through piles of raked leaves...looks like a proper five seven five about a witty animal...

A great poem. Skittish fits with kittenish and I love the thought of more bounce per pounce. Some kittens so seem spring-loaded too. All in all, I thought this was a great poem.

Lovely review, thank you so much, Judy. The inspiration was my older cat suddenly getting in touch with her 'inner kitten' and doing a dance.

Excellent color and photo combination. While the kitten is frisky there was not any depiction of witty personality or actions which was a core requirement. Good syllable count.

This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.

    Hi Lance
thanks for your honesty... it is refreshing on this site.
I thought the 'bounce per pounce' and 'spring-loaded' aspects were rather witty behaviour for my kitty (definition of witty: amusingly clever in perception and expression)... but there you go, perception and wit are of course variable from person to person.
Your parrot is being witty (if mocking is witty)... he is blessed with the gift of speech, but some might think the parrot is being cheeky rather than witty. Or being offensive to 'crackers' because he doesn't want one!
It does say somewhere on site rules that writers shouldn't defend their work, but I find discussing language, ideas, and comprehension and how we express ourselves personally is surely why we are on this site?
So thank you for putting your point to me, which is exactly what I need to hear, to see how people react to what I have written, whether they think it works or is a fail.

Thanks so much for reviewing, Pam. My older cat inspired me, when she burst into a series of prancing and dancing as she chased a leaf.

You are very welcome. It sounds like an energetic cat!

She was having an 'inner kitten' moment then needed a lie down for the next 3 hours!

I like that description, "an inner kitten moment." Cats usually do need a lot of sleep!

I don't have a kitten... my older cat had a moment of tapping into her 'inner kitten' and started to chase leaves.
Thanks for reviewing and your good wishes, Dolly.

What a cute, kitty poem. I like the entire presentation and cuteness. You used great descriptive choices when you said " bounce per pounce" adorable!!

My older cat displayed her 'inner kitten' to me, changing from a sedately plodding puss to an energised prancer and dancer when a leaf swirled past.

The actual inspiration was my older cat who was just plodding along when she suddenly burst into action chasing a leaf... I guess animals have an 'inner child' too.

I am glad you enjoyed this. My older cat actually inspired it... she was plodding along when suddenly her inner kitten came to the fore and she chased a leaf.

This is a fun poem, Mystery Author. I like the bounce/pounce internal rhyme. The picture I a good pairing with your well-chosen words. I like the play on the word 'spring' and the reference to autumn leaves. Good job and best wishes. Jan

I was watching my 11-yr old cat plodding through the backyard when she suddenly leapt into action and started chasing a leaf... she is just like me, when something catches her attention it is playtime!... like writing poetry.
