I really like all the specific examples of the ways children entertained themselves. They are so evocative--the sounds, the joy of getting cool, the various games such as stick ball and red light/green light, the taste of snow cones. And then the quiet times listening to her mother's records, having tea. There is also an acknowledgement that it wasn't all easy times. It is a beautiful tribute to family love, and lovely as a poem.

This was a good read, unknown author. I love the great childhood memories you shared in this piece. I'm seeing a common theme among the entries with a good childhood as the subject. It's that their families were close. Good job and good luck in the contest.
