Lordinajamjar--
I think I would have sixed the Cat Stevens imitation or take off, but not quite this short poem. It seems to be about grief, or missing someone that was there or you not being there for someone. There's an ache to it which you evoke well, wish I understood it better.

Thank you Wabi. This poem is about regret. I can understand how some readers can detect an underlying grief or loss. The regret I was evoking refers to a sense the listener is experiencing. A regret that they caused hurt to the teamaker who would normally pour two cups of tea not one.

    I appreciate your words.

    Thank you

Very entertaining and an enjoyable read! Thank you for sharing how a drinking a cup of tea for one can be lonely, considering you have a wife. Hahaha!!

An excellent example how a "mundane" topic can make attractive poetry. The humour is subtle but that gives this 5-7-5 even more reason to be read.

A very poignant little 5-7-5 and one I wholeheartedly agree with- that IS one of the loneliest sounds. I am a tea lover and wouldn't be happy if someone was making a cup of tea and hadn't offered me one! Nice little picture to accompany your words as well. X

After my first read I didn't much of this poem. After the reread I was hit with the sadness of your words. It snuck up on me. It's tough to have impact with so few words. Well done.

I like this very much! Very lovely and lonely all at the same time. Is your wife angry at you? I wonder! It is creative in that it leaves so much to wonder about and I love that in particular about poetry. Your author notes are excellent. Thank you for providing them and the picture is lovely to accompany! Great job!

This is truly a heart breaking poem. I don't understand why a wife wouldn't want to make tea for her husband. It's sad. You have beautifully conveyed sadness and pain here in a nice manner.

Hello, John, and welcome to FanStory.
We're glad to have you here.
Now, about your 5-7-5...
I used to lie in bed when I was a young lad working on my Grandmother's and Grandfather's farm during the wee hours of the morning before chores and listen to Grandma make breakfast.
Although there were 15 people in that farmhouse including me and my two younger brothers, she was always up first preparing breakfast for everyone to help get them through the day. And despite the number of people in the home I always thought the sounds of her doing so seemed so lonely. The clinking of the dishes, her humming her favorite hymnal, in that kitchen day after day, all alone.
So, I get where you're coming from.
Well penned.

This is a good poem to establish the feeling one might have if being left all alone. Nothing more sad than the sound of one where there was more or many before.
