Thank you for sharing your example of a Lipogram in these rhymed quatrains. I agree that the form is more of an exercise, and I liked the hint in your picture about the key letter that was left out. Smiles- Joan

Thank you Joan. I actually left out a C, rather than an S.

Ooops--I meant "C". Enjoy a writer's weekend when it arrives- Joan

A very well-written lipogram poem making use of substituting words with the letter 'c' so that it is not used and the whole phrase have a different feel to it as intentionally meant.

I found the challenge of writing a lipogram to be a fun thing. In the contest, I tied for third place and gained $9 for the effort. I may at another time try another one. Patricia

Tom,

I liked your poem, but what I liked most - to be perfectly honest - was your notes. So many people do these so many different ways. But when you leave out letters no one uses anyway - what have you accomplished? *smile* Thanks!

Thank you Robyn. Yes, I heartily agree. And who even would notice unless you told them, anyway. Do it an exercise mainly for the poet.

I enjoyed the humour and agree with the argument in the poem. The details of the form and how it should be undertaken were also interesting. Yes, the letters you also omit are those high scoring scrabble ones. You did well leaving out 'S'. I imagine 'E' must be the most difficult to omit.

A good example of a lipogram and a very fine set of hints detailing various methods of writing them.
It's only fair that, in my review, I should also be omitting the same letter that you have done.

Okay, I agree a lipogram is a drill not poetry, but it looks like you are having fun writing this. Does it hone your skills? I'll take your word for it. Rod

Yup.Indeed, unless you tell someone what you doing who would even know or care. So I conclude that it's merely an exercise for the poet.

This was fun. I enjoy playing with lipograms. I tried with yours. Thanks for the clue!
Your lipogram can be a pain/But it will really try your brain/Go try to leave a letter out/And learn what it might be about/Go write upon a page with glee/Then alter anything you want/Enjoy the game without a fee/And think of giving up, but don't.

-I like the photo and
appreciate the notes, Treischel.
-Your lipogram turned out very well.
-The rhyme and meter are good.
-I also like how you describe
the form poetically:
"So write upon a page with glee."
-Thanks for sharing.

Hi Treis,

A very nice contest that is well written. Nothing to suggest improving upon in this piece. Best of luck in the voting booth.

Your author notes are great, too.

Thanks for sharing.
