I like your message and think your real conclusion is buried in the second stanza: "our reliance is borderline obscene." You do a great job expressing the love/hate relationship that we are "forced" into with our tech devices. Thanks.

WONDERFUL how you describe our obsessions with high priced cell phones. Indeed, cell phones run and control our every day life; but, also help keep us organized and it touch with business events and family and friends. VERY AMUSING. Where did you find photo? Read mine, also. lolol liberty justice

Thank you, Liberty! I will certainly read your entry. I got the photo on a Yahoo image search, forget exactly what I typed in, probably "obsessed cell phone users" or the like;^)

HELLO CHIP: Thank you for posting this message. It comes right-exact. Compare it to this truth: "People all over the world: KNOW THIS: that in the last days perilous times will come; For men will become lovers of themselves...more than they love their, God." first TIMOTHY chapter 3: and at verse 1; through verse 5. You have posted a wise message here, Chip. Thank you for sharing. God bless you. Cordially: rhonnie69.

They hear us boast, curse, and whine
But we give them relief
Comical but brief
When we send a text to a landline...ha ha ha ha ha ...umbilical cord/iPhone ...oh my goodness what have we become?
God bless

You see people texting and driving all of the time around here, Chip, which, by the way, is illegal in our state.
Still, they do it anyhow.
You see folks with their phones up to their ears holding them while they're driving and not paying one iota of attention as to what's gong on around them.
This causes many accidents and far too many that are fatal.
I can't believe people are so reliant on their smart phones and cell phones that they can't put 'em down for two minutes.
But, unfortunately, that's what's happening.
Good poetic social commentary of sorts.
Have a fantastic weekend.

~Dean

Landlines, how many still exist? I do miss telephone booths. Perhaps because they were there when people really had something to say. A long distance call was saved for a death, a birth or an accident. We got by without cellphones for ten thousand years, maybe more. Try taking one away from a millennial... they'd become irrational or suicidal. Well, I've given this enough thought. I have to go look for my cellphone. My regards.

Thanks, Victor! There is actually a phone "booth" in my town (not enclosed like days of old, but freestanding coin-op phone).

Yes, when I go back to my home in northern Minnesota... Grand Marais, up the Gunflint Trail which is sixty miles long, there's no cell phone service five miles out of town heading up the Trail.
There's one pay phone 29 miles up and another at the very end of the trail. Life is still interesting.

Hi Chip :)
What's a land line? (Just kidding....I'm old enough to know!)
I enjoyed your poem. Excellent flow and well rhymed.
Good luck in the voting booth.
Best wishes, Debra :)

Excellent artwork to compliment your work. The cell phone phenomenon is real and kind of scary as we see people, like in your picture, addicted to these little devices.

Well done and good luck in the contest.
Blessings
Janet
