How very much 'now' this moment portrayed here - interesting to read of a personal 'encounter' with our brave new world Alexa- where is it all going to end ? Thanks for sharing that enlightening moment! Look forward to hearing more moments with Alexa - how about turning it into a diary ? Just a thought !!

hmm, you've got me thinking. or maybe a kid's story where her owner's son is some kind of techy whiz kid and he takes her apart and makes her more advanced and it's his secret, and they have adventures, and.... :) or maybe your idea is better.
    you've peaked my imagination. Thanks

Hilarious!!! And who can't identify with this?!!! SUCH a fun read, Pome Lover. I'm storing it in my bookcase so I can re-read it often.

Btw, have you seen the Saturday Night Live skit entitled "Alexa for Seniors"? I think now that you're calm and at peace with Alexa again, you might like it! :)

Laughed my fanny off. I don't own one . Don't want one. It is our Southern accent she can't understand. So much for technology. Maybe the day will come you can buy one with accent installed. We had a GPS in the truck had the same problem. Couldn't understand Southern. This is a fun read and so glad you shared with us.

right. think of the money somebody could make if they made Alexas with accents from different states . OR if people could send in their spouse's voice and it could be installed in Alexa. ha! A friend of mine said she is Big Brother. scary thought.

I laughed--even though I don't know Alexa and can't fathom why she would work for you.

Yes, I know about Alexa. But I guess I'm too old a geezer to understand the why of Alexa. I'm guessing she's the modern equivalent to my beloved remote control. Changing channels from the couch, I can understand. Beyond that, it's black magic.

Great humor, Pome Lover. Great dialogue--with a machine. I also like that you constructed a story from a small snippet of life. We live in small snippets.

Well done.

Peace, Lee

Thank you so much! You learn what kind of person you are - patience-wise - when you own one of these things. But she's really good for playing sound tracks if you like certain ones or whole CDs . She can tell you the temperature where you are - how, I don't know, and what the weather is. So she can be handy, when she's of a mind. :)
Thanks again for a lovely review.

I do understand certain aspect of Alexa's appeal, but I'm a hermit writer who talks to himself. It would be a contest to see which could drive the other mad first. L

I understand. I'm a hermit writer, too. Talk to everything - birds, mosquitoes, you name it.

Loved it - I think part of the reason I don't have Alexa is that I can easily see myself getting into these sort of arguments - I particularly liked this section:

"Silence.
She's sulking.
I am, too.
Stalemate. "

It describes a standoff between two evenly matched foes - until one of them remembers that she's a human and Alexa is an electronic device.

I'm impressed by your eclectic taste in music.

This is well written and amusing. There are some funny things that do happen with technology, but AI isn't really so wonderful if we contemplate what is in our future with it. There is much to be wary of. But, not to put a damper on your cute story, it's humorous and fun. Great job. Marilyn

yeah, I've heard people say that it's Big Brother in disguise, but then in a way, so is my computer and cell phone. But she's pretty neat at times, like last night I was reading in bed and she was playing some soft, pretty music and when I felt myself getting sleepy I just said, "Alexa, stop." I didn't have to get up, or reach over, or anything.
Anyway, thank you for your kind comments!

Hi Pome,

ROFLMAO.

That said, this is a very funny story, and very well written.

Nothing to suggest improving upon here, except maybe to regift Alexa to someone you aren't fond of. LOL

Thanks for sharing,

Jan

okay, Miss Jan - I'm afraid you lost me there with the initials. You sound like my granddaughter. And followed by "that said", makes me wonder if I really want to know.
But thank you for the kind words! much appreciated.

I thoroughly enjoyed this piece! Your witty humor was a delight to read especially about something most people are familiar with. They are now putting Alexa in cars which is crazy in my opinion, I shutter to think what mischief my 2 year old son could get up to with that since he has already become quite familiar with the Alexa at his grandparents lol. Any way, well done!

thank you sooo much for the stars and great review. I didn't know they were putting Alexa in cars. That IS crazy.
I think it will be interesting to hear what questions and orders for Alexa your son comes up with. You could probably write a picture book about it!!! (how about that for an idea?)
Anyway, thank you again for your kind words.

    PS
your pen name has peaked my interest???
reply by Green_Jello on 11-Feb-2019
You right, that is a cute idea! I will have to see if what develops from his requests lol. Green Jello is the name of my giraffe puppet in the picture on my page lol. Weird I know but I thought about creating stories about him at some point.

LOL. Now I'm convinced I don't want Alexa in my home. You did a fabulous job describing your hilarious exchange with the dense program. At least, it wasn't as bad as the Alexa ad shown over the SuperBowl.

Hate to say I didn't watch the Super Bowl, so didn't see the ad. I'll have to ask my football watching friend.
actually she (A) is kind of fun. Last night I was reading in bed and she played a bunch of diana krall - I sang along with her at times, and when I got sleepy, I just said, "Alexa, stop." Didn't have to get up or reach over - pretty neat.
