I found it hard to breathe myself after reading this. Empathy for your feelings, the dead bird, the shivering sheep, while being carried along with the rich and descriptive language. It was like looking at an abstract painting and finding personal meaning in it. Sometimes it isn't necessary to understand everything to understand enough.

Very poignant poem with lots of metaphors between love gone wrong, the cold of snow and self-destruction. Some of my favorite word images are: soft as the footfalls of a cat, like a moon milking candle looking for a lost slipper on the floor. Thanks for sharing.

Some amazing imagery - I could feel the cold brush against me. An emotive piece, the breaking of a heart, the loss of hope, the crush of rejection. Very raw. A possible suggestion is to consider even stronger punches to elicit greater swings in emotion in each stanza.

I once almost froze to death and initially it is pain beyond endurance...then comes the sweet warm lips that will suck away the life force. Fortunately I was found, but remember it well and always will. This is a lovely poem and I enjoyed it tremendously.

Oh my, Sergeant Floyd. . .you have written so many thoughts, some lovely, some not, some complete a thought and some I'm just not sure where those words are landing. It feels as though you have several thoughts, maybe even several poems all wrapped up in this one and I'm having difficulty sorting them out. This could very well be me. . .I would love for you to take one stanza at a time and make it complete. Your writing is interesting and needs to continue to see just where it will land.

Wow...now this is a heartbreaking and even heartwrenching free verse that takes the cold of the weather into the cold of betrayal and of letting go like the warmer breezes that invade that cold as Winter turns to Spring... I hate to use wonderful with the emotions that are woven here, but it is a wonderful write. Thank you for sharing... :) ;)
