Very unusual twisting of an ancient tale around how you related and how you've found love and want even more. Lovely illustration and I can see it is quite heartfelt. Enjoyed reading it. Your rhymes work well together.

The horses strain, they want to give this a six, but I must control them and I do not think you have revealed this mystery, wonderful and awful as it is, as well as you can. I think, for one, you cannot do it in one poem. You are dealing with two enormous mountains that represent much of what "MesoAmerica" meant and means to us here in North America. I want these myths, stories revealed from the inside and don't feel you have quite done it. Please, try again.

I've read this poem twice now and still have a difficulty understanding it. On one hand you have the ancient couple and the other is about you and your wife. Where I become confused is the ancient woman died, im not sure if your wife did also. Good luck in the contest.

close, I almost did while in a coma after a kidney transplant, she did the praying in our case, she is my caretaker. Thank you for the review. God Bless you.

Thank you for sharing. Your illustration is quite appropriate for the poem and lends clarity to the story you are comparing with your own. There was a Pixar animated short called "Lava" which this story also reminds me of. I wonder if it was also inspired by the Mexican folk legend you mention.
