You certainly know how to leave your readers hanging! There I was, thinking that everyone was now safe, and you drop that little bombshell at the end.( Perhaps that's not the right metaphor in the circumstances! LOL)
The pace of your writing in this chapter intensifies the sense of urgency. Graphic descriptions take us right into the action.
So glad that the lad got his watch back!
I can't imagine that they are all going to perish, but with the fireball having consumed all the oxygen at the entrance, and a dead-end where they'd hoped and expected the exit to be, things are looking a bit bleak.
Perhaps it's a good time for a rousing chorus of Rock Of Ages, Cleft For Me.

I was expecting Veronica go back to the future after she saw Tommy pull Mildred up and saved her. So now it is still not known if they make it. Veronica has to make it she is in the future. Thank you so much, Joy! Veronica is level-headed, and Mildred has some surprising sides, too. But one thing will never change, and that's Mildred's loyalty and love for Veronica and her family, and theirs for her. I'm so pleased you are still enjoying this story, it will be the last one.
