This is quite an inspirational story. I think it really does reflect on how we are each right about our destiny, whatever we think that is.

One small correction:

I left behind the wheel chair - wheelchair should be just one word. Also in this same sentence, I feel the order is a bit awkward. Perhaps "I left the wheelchair behind."

Great work!

You are truly an inspiration to readers. I admire your tenacity and motivation that you took from that quotation. Your journey to being the active person you are now was a joy to follow in the story. May you collect many more t-shirts... that was a great way to finish.

Isn't it interesting that in dreams we are not held back by artifice and injury.... a parallel life in God's care.

Your story should inspire many people who have been stricken like you were. It is fascinating to read how you achieved your goals. I especially like how you used a bold-face refrain throughout to illustrate each stage of your progress. I applaud your achievements. Rod

Dear Mystery Author,

Wow, what a motivational presentation! In a situation like that - in those SEVERAL situations it would just be sooo much easier to give up and quit - and it takes a strong man with a strong constitution to stay with it. Congrats and good luck!

A very well-written inspirational true story. When we say we can and believe our words it will become possible. When we say we can't the same will happen we will never be able to do something we said we can't do.

Wow. Good for you! This is a well-written, inspiring story. The messages we give ourselves are so important. It would have been so easy agree with the doctor and say "I can't walk again." Great idea about the quilt.

This is a most heartwarming and inspirational true life story. Yes, sufficient determination can conquer all kinds of obstacles that many nay-sayers will claim cannot be overcome. The poster, which was tailored for the situation, could as well say, "Anyone who says he or he can and anyone who says he or she can't are both right." Most people would have settled for clearing any one of the many imposing hurdles you leaped; but you persisted to clear them all, with each victory giving you strength and resolve to conquer the next. Bravo! You ought to offer this story for publication somewhere, so it has wider readership. Superb, and aptly illustrated; though these stars pale in comparison to those you earned in life.

Here are two poems supporting your theme.

The first, "It Couldn't Be Done" (1919) by Edagar A. Guest (1881-1959), can be found here: https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/it-couldn-t-be-done-3/

The second is harder to find in accurate version, so I'll quote it below.

"Thinking" by Walter D. Wintle (1905 or earlier, now in Public Domain):

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't;
If you'd like to win, but you think you can't,
It's almost a cinch you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost,
For out of the world we find
Success begins with a fellow's will;
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

Life's battle doesn't always go
To stronger or faster man;
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.

    You are most welcome. You were fortunate to have been raised to know you could accomplish whatever you aspired to, provided you made the necessary effort and persisted. Too many kinds are taught the opposite today, which, to me, ought to be a crime. In any case, few people would have persisted as well, and for as long, as you did. -- Mike

Oh my, I am not as tough as I once was by a far cry, but neither am I a weepy mess, but your story has moved me to tears. God indeed blessed you, and your telling of your strength and determination will bless anyone who reads this, in my opinion.

I wish I could rate this wonderfully inspiring tale as it deserves. I'm out of sixes, but this is clear, concise writing, highly polished. I loved every word,including your clever use of repeating, "I can"!

Wonderful!
Love and peace,
Dawn

I love a story about overcoming incredible odds. An unbreakable human spirit always makes for a great story. This was inspiring. I enjoyed it. Good luck in the contest!

    Is there a reason you gave me a four star rating? You gave no indication as why you dinged me stars.
