SO beautifully woven, my dear poetry friend. You told a story poem in your verses, and perhaps, you alluded to yourself. Seems you might have broken the hold someone has on you. Read my writings also. liberty justice WELL DONE.

Thanks for the very kind words. It's more a general commentary on the things we encounter as we go through life, than specifically about one particular person or event, although it's presented that way. Cheers, Craig

I have to commend you on the originality of this poem, comparing insects following their instincts to humans trapped in relationships.

I guess some people are drawn to each other even if they may be bad for each other. At least we humans can reason our way out. Good writing! Lou

They don't particularly scare me, although I have a healthy respect, as I'm highly allergic to all venom, in so far as I know; and many of our species are highly toxic. But we regularly have spiders as houseguests for weeks at a time. Many thanks, Craig

Great comparisons in this the moth to the flame, trapped in the spider's web and trapped in a love affair that he finally escapes.
Great closing couplet Craig and a great read,
cheers,
valda

What an interesting reflection here within the lines of the classic Sonnet format -who knows why we are like the moth in its 'headlong rush ' ...'to candle's flame'- a beautifully sculpted piece of art leaving the reader with much to ponder

A very fine sonnet. How easy it is to become entrapped, and how hard to free ourselves again. A sharp turning point in the third verse is the making of this, and you have a most satisfying closing couplet. A strong submission for the contest.

I loved this. Excellent work here. I think everything flows nicely, it works well. I think we all want to fade away sometimes especially from the things that we feel control us. At least I know I do sometimes.

What a wonderful Sonnet, I am going to keep this one as I am trying to write one, I should say improve or get the damn thing right! I read the story in these words with excellent rhyme and flow, very well written for such a hard poem to create, best wishes for your contest****kahpot

Great job with the sonnet, Craig. I like the metaphor of the dangerous light that attracts the moth to its capture for the unhappy love relationship. Wish you well in the contest!
