I think you've written this very well indeed Carol. I think as we age, we just want to be comfortable, which is a sure sign of age. There's a lot I want to achieve, but it concerns others more. I want to leave my grands with a lust fo God and life, I want to perfect kindness, grace and love. A caring for justice and equity, but alas that is their decision,, each of us walk his own road of choice. This post was a venerable stream of consciousness, well done, Carol, that led your pen hand, well done, blessings Roy,

Thank you, it was kind of a stream of consciousness write, as you said. But then I added in the lines about my mother in the end, because she was always my best friend and now doesn't recognize me.

Aww, Carol, yeah, sometimes we long for what once was, which will never come back. But sweet memories can never be taken away. If we hadn't had what we had how could we miss it?
I want grey-haired dogs to lie beside me
with snores like prayers.
I loved that line.
Hugs. Ulla:)))

I absolutely LOVE this poem, not just because it describes ME! I really wish I had a 6 left. My free verse is BAD, but I recognize great free verse when I read it. It's hard to choose a favorite part--but I especially like the "snore" simile!

Thank you, Janice. Free verse is a lot harder than it looks! A lot of mine are long, but I wanted to do a short one - something concise. And I really do dislike buying new shoes very much, they just never feel right :))

I really like this. Normally, I don't review a lot of free verse because a lot of it is just rambling nonsense, but yours evoked so many memories for me. The imagery is excellent and I see each scene as if I were there. Just really nice poetry well expressed. Cowboy

Thanks Cowboy, you know a lot of this came straight from Montana - with that name of yours I thought you might appreciate it. The mountain and the trees, the meadowlark, the lake (matching my mom's eyes)... I appreciate your rating and comments, esp. coming from one who doesn't usually care for free verse! :))

This I a great free verse, Carol. I enjoyed reading it. Your lines flow smoothly with a great message. Yes, there is comfort in 'old' things esp now when the world is so crazy. Good job and thanks for sharing. Jan

Yes, the world is so crazy right now, it's been a tough year. I'm just hoping each and every day the govt shutdown will end and I'll get a paycheck!
    Thanks for the review, Jan,
