Thank you for sharing! I love the historical nature of these poems and the explanatory author's notes which accompany them. I just recently wrote a piece about the Forlorn Hope at the Battle of Vicksburg in 1863 which you should check out. Thanks for letting me know about this set of poems!

They were all too keen to become heroes, they had no thought that they could possible lose to 'savages'. But those 'savages' were robbed of everything they held sacred, the white men didn't deserve to win. You poem is amazing, Tom, I love poem stories like this, and it flowed beautifully. I'm sure it took you ages to write, and I enjoyed every line of it. Ahem, I don't think you took this photo, did you, Tom? LOL. I'm sure in one way you wish you could have done. Well done, had I got a six it would have been yours. :) Sandra xx

Wow. I mean wow man this is intense and Spectacular. I had to read the notes about it. Fascinating. So they were all killed? Wait, what happened to Crazy Horse.

This is in perfect meter and truly compelling. Your word choices are incredible too. Bow and tomohawk sound cool together btw.

You really unfold a story here. I mean obviously, but you do it in such a powerful way. Also, Unwary that their leader was a fool, Was he or is he still considered a fool?

Really really well done. I don't know how write in this form so well.

Thank you Greg, Crazy Horse lived on to kill Custer. Fetterman is still considered a fool to so easily lead his men into that trap.i am delighted that you liked the poem so well. It is a hard format to write, but first and foremost you have to have a long, multi-faceted story to tell. I appreciate the review and comments on this long poem. I am humbled with the stars.

I had few books as a sprout, but one-No Survivors, by Will Henry-was good enough that I reread it every decade or so...your suite of sonnets echoes a lot of Henry's novel, which was (mostly) based on history...excellent post.

Well done Tom. I didn't realize this battle was before the Little Big Horn and I have seen probably all of the movies about these wars with the Indians. The Indians were always accused of being the invaders when in truth it was the white man, The settlers and the Soldiers. It is a pity what was done to the Indians. You did a great job here. Well done. Nancy

Thank you so much Nancy, for taking the time to read this long poem. Yes, we were the invaders, overwhelming their borders and destroying their culture. It goes to show what can happen with unlimited migration. I really appreciate the review, comments, and all the stars.

I remember the first thing of yours that I ever read was one of these crowns, and how taken I was with it. The form is well suited to this type of history with each contributory event encapsulated in one heroic sonnet. This bears out the idea that the term 'military intelligence' is an oxymoron. The nineteenth century engagements in particular - on both sides of the Atlantic - seem to have attracted courageous but totally stupid and unbelievably arrogant commanders. you have your Fetterman and Custer while we British had Lords Cardigan and Lucan amongst others.

An excellently produced crown, worthy of six stars but it is Friday, alas.

Thank you Jim. Indeed. Courageous fools crop up everywhere, costing needless lives.

A very well-written Crown of Heroic Sonnets with historic events and proof that a brave man with no common sense are worth less than a man with common sense before bravery acts.

History does not repeat but teaches us self and lives, land and citizens must be protected, immigrants have always been discouraged; well said, well done. Write that is readable even after 1000 years--- DR ALCREATOR

Thank you ALD, Indeed, the immigrant angle is part of this story. It can be viewed two ways. 1. The must be protected. 2. If you let too many overwhelm you, the will come in, take over, and destroy your culture.

What a fabulous poem! To write a sonnet like this one takes much time and talent! I am amazed! You tell the tale of The Battle of the Hundred in the Hands well. It's not one that is often told. Great job!
