How deep are the wounds beneath our scars but how helpful time is in the healing process. It is sad this story you have told, so sad are the casualties of war. I feel for your family and recognize the beauty of your expression through the pain.

Truly a beautiful poem.

This is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I'm not talking about the loss that was suffered and all of the pain and anguish. I'm talking about overcoming hardship and travail and coming out on the other side of it. I'm talking about the powerful message conveyed and the superb way that you presented it. I enjoyed reading this well written story/poem. Very well done! You should do quite well in the contest.

Your father and uncle would be proud you honored them in such a beautiful way. The photo captured my attention as I love the magnificent sky and am drawn to sunsets as well as sunrise pictures. What an amazing story and I thank you for sharing this Mrs. KT. My dad was in WWII and he was in Okinawa, Japan when we dropped the bomb. What a wonderful true story of forgiveness by letting the Japanese exchange student into your home; it tells much of your dad's character. How hard it must have been to lose his brother at such a young age. Very profound words of how your uncle could still see and I'm sure October skies hold a special meaning to you. Very touching, thank you for sharing this.

My father came to love Natsumi Murakami as one of his own daughters...He taught me so very much about life and forgiveness.
    Thank you!

What a sad, yet beautiful poem. Very well-written and great presentation. Also really enjoyed the notes here. I saw nothing to improve it. I especially love the stanza that says his life wasn't in vain and explains why. Perfect ending. Your notes explain this well. Wow! It really got to me. Wishing you the best in the contest. This is an awesome (true) story poem! Blessings, Cathy

Thank you ever so much, Cathy...
I've written a few other offerings about my uncle, but never together with my father, and their stories are both so deeply intertwined. I attempted to read this aloud a few times, but I cannot get through it without weeping...
Thank you for your exceptional rating and thoughtful review.
    So very appreciated...

What a beautiful read, story, and poem, the message in these words is powerful and should be taken notice of, as I believe forgiveness and love are far more powerful than Hate, an excellently written story in a poem, best wishes for your contest****kahpot

Very nice poem, and definitely will strike a note with those who have lost loved ones at war. War is a terrible necessity that both separates loved ones and brings them together. Keep up the good writing!

Halfway through this I burst into tears. My Uncle David died in that war. I remember a big bear of a man who twirled a toddler till giddy. My last memory is of the memorial they made at the post office and the flag that flies there to this day... You did a beautiful job with this - and with the story of forgiveness that heals hearts.
