The thematic statement that ends this poem, "It is time that we all heal" is a qote from your uncle's last letter home and, I believe it should be the title of this poem, even though it is possible to understand why you have chosen otherwise, the anniversary of the fatal sinking of the 'Arisan Maru' and consequent death of your uncle.
This is a fine tribute to all who drowned in that disaster.

out of grief and sadness, came forgiveness and love. That is the highest tribute to give your father and late uncle. It's a terribly sad story, not only did so many prisoners die a terrible death chained in that ship, but the pain the captain of the sub who ordered its destruction never got over it. So many peoples lives and families are destroyed in war, it's about time we learned to end them. Very sad, Diane, but a wonderful story in a poem entry. Good luck! Sandra xx

A very compelling story poem about heroism, survival, forgiveness, and twisted fate. Really enjoyed the verse and your further notes. We rebuilt Japan immediately after the war, and now they a good friends.

This is a lovely tribute poem. I wonder if you left out the word somehow in the fourth verse would the rhythm be better? That was the only part I stopped at. Not only a great tribute but a good life lesson in healing and forgiveness. Well done.

He suffered from PTSD after the war, and kept his emotions in check after that. It's hard for me to even imagine what he went through as canadian tank mechanic in the trenches during active battles.
