This is so pretty and since the focus is on a little one roaming the backyard, it has a pure innocence both in the writing and wording. I really like it and hope you do well in the contest.

I liked the humor. Who among us, if not knowing roses were not intended for eating, wouldn't want to partake of so lucious a fare? Red. Frangrant. A full-bodied rosey bouquet allowed to breathe for maximum enjoyment.

This was so amazing in the way it takes you right back to when the world new and everything was fun and fresh and colourful! and yes, life's thorns were just an unknown thing of the very distant future. Oh to go back to that time. Well done, I loved this poem.

The theme and imagery pulls me in and I am cast back to my own childhood and running round the hills sides and grass planes with my sister. I like how what I interpret to be the very real threat of adulthood (portrayed as rose and thorns).
Generally I like it, I would suggest considering the way the last sentence is put together.

***Saved by the bell..Life's thorns would have to wait***
I find the stars confusing and perhaps also the admission for the first time in the poem of something more mechanical in form of the bell, However perhaps that is intentional and the bell also could represent adult hood?
BOOM!

This is a delightful poem and totally fits the criteria of the contest.
"Lifes thorns would have to wait". What a great last line. The picture of the little girl is adorable and really enhances the poem. Good luck and best wishes. Jen.

Ha, I always enjoy a poem about a cute little one wandering through the yard and discovering all the absolutely divine flowers. Yep while it was fun as a youngster, it is still fun as an olderster.

That said, saved by the lunch sounds good too.

A lovely poem and I wish you much luck in the booth. :)

This appealing, descriptive piece movingly calls on the readers
to cast our minds back to childhood, when we looked on life
and nature with appreciation and awe--and desire to explore all.

This poem is an enjoyable and pleasant surprise. In its simplicity it wonderfully conveys the the intent of the when Life was Still Fun contest. the rhyming is perfect the story presented is uplifting to one's soul. The photo is just and add on as the picture you've painted with your words says it all. As the saying goes ' A picture is worth a thousand words."

All the best in the contest

Eugene

I don't dish out six stars, not easily. It was easy, for this poem. Loved that last line, I transported into that garden, I heard the maybe slightly naughty giggle? The closely inspected bumble bee bussing around...Poems must, in some ways grab you by the throat, it must inspire or hurt you, make you happy or very sad. This one made me happy, and brought me to a standstill. That is poetry!

This was not hard for me to tap into... I can still see me and my neighborhood in The Eastbrook sub-division and our back yard... pondering life. I am honored and grateful for the blanket of stars...

The inquisitive nature of youth is magical. The thorns are worth the discovery of roses. They also teach a valuable lesson. Sometimes great joy also brings pain.
