AH, GEEZ, now I am close to tears! Oh how very sad this story is, and yet, somehow it's hopeful at the same time, maybe because your protagonist shows such compassion.
All I know is, this story is EXTREMELY well-written, and polished. If ever there was a need for a sixth star to rate something properly... I'm so sorry! I am out of them!

But if this doesn't win the contest, I sure want to read what does!!!

OUTSTANDING!!!***********************!!!

Hi,
Recently I was told that my reviewing basically sucks. So this week,
this is my review. I'm taking a survey... Would you rather:
A: Have a true review
B: Have a certain 5-star generic review
Choose wisely and be sure of your choice so I can save myself the
needless time and tears over those who don't want to hear them.
I'll make a list.
And remember... LEARNING IS EARNING!

I don't know Yvette! I've done this work and I can't say that it's a good turn gone wrong... I'm sure the Mr.'s in your story all do appreciate their loved ones being there, even if they're not their loved ones. I know that it's really hard for people who are going around the bend to be remembering things that happened years ago, filling in the bland spaces with whoever's around. My Papa did it toward the end, I can't say I'm happy for him, but I can say that it gave me a chance to know things about his childhood I never knew! ;) Dimentia's a tough one though. Attention to detail and kindness is never a bad thing!

Hello!
I totally appreciate your offering, and I empathize with your sentiments. When I was a junior in college, I weekly visited an elderly man who was living at the Masonic Nursing Home in Alma, Michigan. I always brought him something each time I visited from flowers to magazines, to sweets. Every recurring visit, he would show me what his "son" had brought him the previous week. Heartbreaking, as his son never visited him at all.
Best Wishes!

Thanx so much for stopping in for the read and review -- I volunteered at the 'old folks home' in my small town a very long time before there were the specialized units there are today. Folks were all just labeled 'a bit loony' back then, but each and every one had something so very special about them and 'playing along' was almost as much fun as having them tell you stories you couldn't hear anywhere else! :) Still remember a few of the faces....:) Take care, Diane! :)

You did a good job with the prompt, Mystery Author. I enjoyed reading it. Your examples make perfect sense. I believe you got the right 'angle,' Your character is doing good things but the wrong idea may be seen even though that isn't why she is doing them. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Jan

This is very nice, quite poignant. I found myself getting a little choked up as I read each account. I hope the reader sees this as a beautiful tribute for all caregivers who do this valuable service. Well written.

When people have problems with dementia we do what we can to make them comfortable. It keeps them from getting so upset we need to see more smiles on their faces.

This is so amazing and has a great moral. The character does what she does to help people, though expects nothing in return as she is a volunteer, not someone who works for money from what I've read.

I enjoy how you detail each character individually rather than just placing three names in the story and making them incredibly similar because they're all going to the same senior care like many other people do.

I can feel a warmth in me at the selflessness of the main character that is hard to experience in the real world. You could say such a realistic sounding story is actually a fairy tail when read by those in certain areas where everything is about money. Thank you for the great read!

The story shows good basic writing skills. I like what the author is trying to say, but not sure I understand her meaning: do the seniors have dementia and don't understand that what she does is helpful, or do they just not appreciate it? I work a lot with seniors and think that perhaps it is the former. I am confused how Mr. Dowden's stepdaughter comes by on Sundays if you are not open.
I really like the strong ending line. Good work, and very relatable.

I did not know it was you Mystery Writer. I visited my dying grandmother I the place years ago. all I can say is you must be an angel to do that..

I believe there's a song somewhere in the music-sphere like "I'm no angel" .... I think that pretty much sums it up -- I think I had more time/different focus at that point in my life.... I'm sure you know how that goes. :) Take care, PD! :)
