Hi Sally,

Oh my gosh - where is that six-star rating when you really need one?

This is an exemplary story! You are a truly gifted writer, my friend!

Your ending has me typing through misty eyes.

Only one question for your consideration: should fortysomething be hyphenated? (I think maybe so.)

Thank you so much for sharing your terrific work with us. I really enjoyed this read!

Jan

Thank you so much for the excellent review and kind words. You are such a sweetheart! I saw fortysomething both ways, but I will take your good advice and hyphenate it. I appreciate you giving me so much of your time and attention. I am so glad to find you here on FanStory!
    All my best,

    Hi Sal,

You are most welcome, my friend. I'm glad we (cyber) "met" as well. I appreciate you! :-) Jan

PS - I think hyphenated is "correct," as unhyphenated triggers spell check, for whatever that's worth. (I googled whether it should be hyphenated before making the suggestion, but came up empty on that.)

This is a very well written story with a lot of great descriptive words and great imagery from your words as well as the art work you chose. This is a great poem for story of the month contest. Best wishes in the contest. love and blessings, Teri

That is definitely a tear jerker, Sally. You really have a gift for romantic fiction. I guess it comes from the love that you feel.
This is very well written. I bet that it goes up for story of the month. Didn't you win that not long ago?
Anyway, thanks for pointing out this post. Thank goodness it is fiction.

Well done! Even though I expected the ending, I still was hoping that somehow he would make it home. One of my brothers was a long haul trucker and in many ways you captured his life. I always knew he had deep feelings, but he could never express them. He always joked with everyone. A series of strokes ended his driving, but not his sense of humor. I'd like to think if he'd had a napkin to write on, he would have shared more with us.

Thank you so much for the excellent review and insightful comments. I appreciate you so much. I wrote this to remind us all to say, ?I love you? to those we love and care about. I does sound like you brother was very close to the character of Brandon Rhoades. I am glad to hear he had a sense of humor.
All my best to you and yours,
    Sally :+)

I actually teared up. Nice use of emotion - not overdone, just right. The love letter was amazing, and until the very end, I kept hoping he's be somehow saved. Thanks for sharing!

Geez, this almost made me cry reading it. I hope if I get that opportunity when I'm buying the farm I can write something that eloquent and profound to my wife. If this isn't a contest entry it should BE. Excellent Job.

Thank you so much, Earl. My husband cried his eyes out. He could hardly read the ending. You are in good company. I had to do a sweet one for Valentine?s Day. Sometimes we all need to say it more than we do. I know I need to hear and say it everyday. I appreciate your kind words and outstanding rating.

Oh, dear, what a weepie. I kept hoping he wouldn't die, even though everything pointed to the fact this wasn't going to end well. I was pleased, however, that he wrote the words he wanted to say on a napkin - at least she had that. It would be terrible to die without telling your loved one how you really feel. A real lesson here in saying how you feel, because you don't know what is around the corner.

The only thing I'd suggest to you is perhaps you need to 'show' more. The story is heavy on the 'telling' in places. For example, rather than tell us how the accident happened, show us through the character's experience, so that we feel his struggle to control the vehicle.

It is always my pleasure, and it's a great story. Lovely to read more prose, here.

Okay, I just added to his over the cliff scene. See if you think it is more...appealing.

Hi,
Recently I was told that my reviewing basically sucks. So this week,
this is my review. I'm taking a survey... Would you rather:
A: Have a true review
B: Have a certain 5-star generic review
Choose wisely and be sure of your choice so I can save myself the
needless time and tears over those who don't want to hear them.
I'll make a list.
And remember... LEARNING IS EARNING!

Thank you for the excellent review. I hope you meant it, I wasn?t really sure. I would like a reviewer to be honest with me, and I hope that is always the case. I am honest in my reviews. I seek to help FanStory members become better writers, and hope they return in kind.

Have a true review is my vote!

Hi Sally, This was such a sad story! I hate to say it but I saw it coming...Could be because My ex was a trucker and we were on the road for 8 months! We didn't go through winter weather when it was comiing! It was so hard to continue reading when he turned off and I knew that he was headed to his end. I wanted to cry... I just don't have time! LOL

Oh my gosh, so sad. This made me tear up. All the poor choices we make and the wrong decisions, though I could see this coming. I held my breath and hoped he would make it. Well done. Blessings. Barbara

Thank you for the excellent review and tears. My husband cried as he proofread this, too. A lot of men have confessed their their tears and emotions after reading this. I wanted it to be a thought provoking and meaningful read. So glad you stopped by my poet friend!

Wow Sally, this was so good! You drew me in with the way you wrote this and I felt like I was right there with the characters. Thank God for the Bic pen that worked in the freezing cold! (LOL!) We always want things to work out so it was a surprise ending that he died. But what a treasure he left behind on a napkin! Whether in a Hallmark Card or a napkin, the words we convey to one another is so important and the value of those words become priceless, especially after one dies. I literally was reading some cards the other day I saved that my mother gave me with her sweet comments within and they are by far one of my greatest treasures. I'm so glad I read this, thank you! : )
