Oh goodness, this story has brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful love letter written in snow but probably remembered in stone. We are having that kind of weather here now. I couldn't help to think about the travelers on the roads during the holidays. Sally, your stories are wonderful.

Every word of the story is a pearl showing deep love. When beautiful emotion is at peak then such kind of writing appear and travel to the hearts of other people. The story is still in my mind, just like a beautiful movie.

A very tender, poignant and beautiful story. Great job. It's funny, my husband never said he loved me very often, but now that we've been married over 50 years, he tells me loves me every morning, night, and at the end of every phone call.

Oh my goodness, I was literally on the edge of my chair reading this ,hoping against hope for a happy ending. This was riveting to say the least. Well told and detailed enough to carry the reader right into that truck bed. This has my vote for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Blessings,

Sally,

What a sad and horribly tragic story -- with several messages for the reader. I'm not sure if that was what you intended or not, but they sure came across. One, be sure to tell the people who matter most what you really feel while you have the time to do it. Second, follow your instincts and the good advice of the people who love you.

This was a really tense story and though I knew something was going to happen, I didn't know when or how. You had me glued to the screen - you wicked, hateful writer. *smile* Beautiful job and makes it clear why this was chosen as a SOM entry.

I did see some places that may need further attention:
1.) He was forty(-)something with graying hair, actually,

2.) He was fortysomething with graying hair, actually, more gray than brown.
--> this isn't really necessary since you didn't really even mention the brown to begin with and then the brown is so little...

3.) He adored his wife and only son, and (they were) known to travel with (him) in his younger days.
--> I don't think you should say HE traveled with THEM

4.) Branson scolded himself, "(W)hy didn't I say--something...poetic, deep, sexy...anything(?)"

5.) (")He really loved you, Ma'am.(")
--> because it's the opening of a new paragraph where the character is still talking, you need opening q-marks, too.

Thanks and good luck!

Thank you so much for the excellent review and critique. Yep, made everybody cry on this one. My husband was crying so hard he could hardly finish. Maybe he would have noticed my lack of quotation marks at the very end. He is my proofreader! Oh well, I have outstanding reviewers like you. I am very appreciative. I am glad you cried your makeup off.
    All my best,

well...I'm afraid to ask if that's true. Your bio picture looks so happy - I hope it is current.
You wrote this story well, made it real. The one thing that makes me think it's fiction is you include his thoughts which you couldn't know if the story were true.
(just thought of that - whew)
Anyway, it is a good story with a sad but lovely ending.

Dear poet, thank you for the outstanding review and concern for my welfare. No, this is not a true story, although it could be similar to many true stories of loss. I appreciate your time and your encouragement of my work.
    All my best,

    you're most welcome.
It just dawned on me when you said, "Dear Poet" - that you might be VERY KINDLY letting me know I'd misspelled "poem" in my pen name.
    ( though probably you weren't)
anyway, it's just being quirky (silly)
