I like this. It had me thinking of days gone past. I was raised in a time when our country was in turmoil. The Vietnam war, and even though none of my friends or myself was directly affected, we still saw on television the war. I believe the war ended the year I graduated in 79, so none of my friends were drafted. I also believe our country is in trouble and have believed this for quite sometime. I have seen the work ethic, company support of employees and the free ride on welfare get worst. My fear is that when the younger generation are old enough to run the country there will be no more America, but a carbon copy of the story Animal Farm. I would love to give you six stars but my allotment is completed.

This is a very strong and powerful piece and agree wholeheartedly with all of the points raised. I live in the UK and the same trials and tribulations regarding today's generation are just the same. I have two girls and I try and instill all the above, but also I have to accept that times have changed and rather than fight that completely, try and make sure my girls incorporate these life lessons and skills along with all the new and challenging (in my opinion) areas of technology and peer pressure and self-image. Things are so so different now and all we can do is try and hope that we do right by our kids so they are a valued and respectful and hardworking member of society...something that seems to be getting more and more lost.

This is so moving and well-written! As I read along, I was nodding
my head, point by point. Yes, so much has changed, much of it
not for the better. Taking prayer out of the schools has also had an effect.

It is so true that the values taught to us as children have fallen off the map. It scares me to think that the generations who are coming up will be the ones running things when I'm old(er.)
I went to a local ball game this summer and I was embarrassed by the small number of people who could sing along with the anthem.
Are there amswers? Not ready-made ones. We have to vote, write letters, and encourage leaders who extol our values.

I agree. I will be sixty in February and remember many of the issues you mention. I wish we could return to those values and have a more respect for each other and our country.

Your thoughts read well, Barbara. Everything you mentioned should still be the way of life for the younger generation. Well said, Sis, Can see the respect shining through. There should be more like you. Respect has gone out the window in a lot of cases these days. People have forgotten God for sure.
