And so the mystery grows deeper and maybe more sinister.
This chapter highlights the fact that close relationships can cloud normally wise judgement and potentially foolish decisions could be made.
Reality simmers ever present around this group and one, or two, must keep a level head.
In this case it seems John and Kayla must step up to the task.
I found just one small typo in second last line of fifth paragraph from the bottom--it was already was morning.
Blessings
Shirley

Once again, this is a wonderful addition to your previous posts. I can't wait to see why Kayla is sure Jeanne is an evil woman. I agree with her.

We've an early start in the morning, if we're to pick Jeanne up from the hospital before she discharges herself. (I stumbled over this sentence. I think it's needs to be turned around.)

Ha,ha. Can't have a chapter without food. I love croissants. The focus on this chapter is Jeanne and the theme :looks are deceiving.

Another intriguing read. So there is substance to Charle's intuition not to trust Jeanne
That she is using Helen as a pawn is interesting because Helen seems so headstrong...maybe the sister will enlighten us further about Helen
God bless

Good luck on getting two hardheaded independent women to pull anywhere near the same direction. Interesting lot of backstory, here. Excellent prose and atmosphere...

-An excellent chapter, Tony, that includes
all the major characters in the book.
-It flows well from beginning to end.
-Tempers flare a bit as Helen chastises
Charles about calling her ridiculous.
-Helen irritates her sister by making
snide comments about Andre, and for
saying the things she does about Jeanne.
-The Helen/Jeanne relationship is interesting
because we get two different versions of the same person.
-You do an excellent job with Charles's dream.
-The imagery is vivid, it creates suspense,
and most importantly, shows how distraught
Charles must be feeling with all of the conflicting
views between the sisters and the impact
Jeanne will have on things.
-That is lessened by the conclusion,
with breakfast prepared, the smell
of coffee and fresh croissants.
-Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hello Tony
The chapter is one of the better ones in the book.
The dialogue flows well, consistent with each character,
as small bits of information emerge. No Mafia, that fits nicely
since even Charles expressed doubt about their involvement.
You have great dream sequences. It would look great on a movie screen
with the bare-breasted Amazon charging in on a white stallion,
though few would notice the stallion.
And, the washerwoman, interesting inclusion.
You're tying threads nicely
Well done
Robert

Many thanks, Robert. Yes, the bare-breasted Amazon would be bit of an eye-catcher - though I gather they only had one breast, the other having been excised so that it didn't impede their prowess with a bow and arrow. Wishing you a nightmare free Christmas.

Cheers, Tony;
>an Intriguing Background of Kayla's history and how still involved and implicated would be Helen if involved with the Mafia. But that small town crook, Belini, might just be hooked up with the Mafia, Even though it is a small time drug dealer.
> I like the internal and external web of intrigue and mystery that surrounds Charles and Helen. Little by little on coming to grips with the whole situation which is so fun.
> Thank you for sharing this, Tony, and may you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a flappy happy New year.

Hmm, so things are moving on slowly and I'm still left with the feeling that I don't know who is deceiving whom. Hmm. Great addition to the book and I can't wait to be reading on. This is such a great spin,Tony, and very well written. All the best. Ulla:))
