Lots of visions for the imagination here, LIJ Red. I would venture to say that those who have actually hit a deer, can totally relate.
I was impressed by your use of the correct terminology, although I am not familiar with several of the terms, it definitely was a plus to the story ;o)
Good write!

More people are killed in the USA by deer than by any other wild animal...nearly all in car crashes. I got on my soapbox because one was run over within feet of my mailbox...thanks very much for reading my story.

You have a really good ear, Red. And a sense for the different ways people react to a singular event. You're the master of show don't tell.
See? That's how you circumvent the 150 character rule--you make up shit you don't really mean. You know I'm kidding. Peace, Lee

I just realized my Tommi character is a fake...a way for me to sneak rants into a conversation. Somebody ran over the doe
that grazes in my yard and set me off. A widow I know paid three grand to have her car repaired after whacking a deer..I wish I was able to go back to work. I feel a second childhood setting in...probably safer here than on the job...thanks very much for reading my yarn, Lee.

what does 'back to work' entail? I'd be pissed if someone ran over my resident fox.
Comment from country ranch writer
Hum sounded awful fishy there at they end teasing about the deer and the chasing and the 90 miles an hour to hit the deer, at least he didn't go to waste. Fresh road kill is called a hot meal to go hehe.

That's the way country folks here break an uncomfortable silence, with joking and bullshit...too many deer wasted here, nine out of ten lie there until they are no good for human consumption. I drive by a dead deer more days than not, on my seven mile trip to the diner. Thanks for reading and reviewing my rant. I was mad because one of the does that grazes in my yard got hit.

awe so sad to see one of the favorites get hit. The deer in my forest a few and far between but 20 miles up at my son's cabin he sees then and bears in his yard just walking around.

I enjoyed this excellent work very much in all dimensions and have no suggestions to improve upon it in any way. My sincere thanks to this fine author for a very rare and delightful read indeed! HIS GRAYNESS; Vance

One of my yard-grazing does got run down, so I wrote this...thanks very much for reading and reviewing...

I read and I enjoy what I read, that's all I need so I can write a review. Reading can be just like peeling an onion. There will be layers after layers of meaning. Each reading can provide new insights. If possible, I would read this over and over to find each layer of enjoyment, each layer of meaning and talent. Well done

I wanted to impress readers what happens when they drive too fast on rural roads, not watching what they are doing. Deer
cause more human deaths than any other US animal...on highways. I don't care for venison, and love the watch the deer graze in my yard...thanks for reading and reviewing.

Far too sad even for a comment. The sooner I forget this the better. Nothing wrong with your post, but I can't bear hearing about animals being injured and suffering. Not your fault... that's just how I am.

I wanted readers to feel like they were there, and slow down and keep their eyes open. There was a four-point buck near that scene as I came home from the diner just now...grazing away. I don't hunt...if we eat the animals we owe them a well-fed life before then. My gun savvy resulted from tinkering and target shooting. Yeah, crazy old man...thanks for taking a look.

Sadly it happens quite regularly, as more and more roads and settlement impinge on the natural habitant of our bush animals. Nice well written story, with all the details of what really goes on. Some animals die in agony on the side of road when cars don't stop.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers.

I live alone, retired, and think too much about things like the deer killed last week. She grazed in my yard many nights. Thanks very much for reading and reviewing.
