Pamusart, this is such a tragic tanka poem. The story behind it is one that will go down in history. The poor girl did not deserve to be treated with such cruelty and heartlessly. You have done well to paint this sad picture using such a tanka format. ~DD

Great tanka form here, Pam. I was heartsick to read the content of your verse and just so troubled by all that is going on. Thank you very much for sharing this poignant story with us in this poem.

Nicely penned tanka, Pam, featuring a very pertinent topic.
I heard about this case and several more like it unfortunately, Pam.
At the base of the Statue of Liberty is a poem inscribed in a bronze plaque titled, "The New Colossus"
It goes a lil' somethin' like this...

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

~Emma Lazarus

What happened to this theory of love and compassion?
Has it simply lost all meaning over time?
Sad indeed...

I'll bet ya a hundred dollars if this poem had been posted on Fanstory it would be given AT LEAST two, four-star ratings.
Guaranteed!
Also very sad...

This is fanstory. Dean, are you saying this poem is worth only four stars or that some people are mean to you? Thank you for your lovely review

So sad. Jakelin Caal Maquin- May her soul rest in peace. The borders are the drawn lines , crossing them can cause the benevolence and cruelty as well. Again sometimes, misapplication of the facility of allowed surrenders can produce more cruelty. So sad! Human, the most skillful animal,is so much weaker to save its own species. Horrible!

Excellent, though very sad, don't these people (border patrol) have any compassion? apparently not, a great but again very unnerving photo, very well written****kahpot
