I think I detect two different interpretations of rain as it applies to the present. First is the literal version, in which rain is no longer welcome as it used to be, as a denuded landscape (partly, perhaps brought about by the awful fires of recent times) suffers at the hands of what used to be a godsend. And then there is the rain which drives us (our "blood"). Is it to be the wellspring of goodness we once saw it as, or is it the destructive force which threatens our wellbeing?
Anyway, apologies if this rambling is annoying, I'm just thinking aloud. I think you've done an excellent job here, with powerful images and smoothly flowing phrases. Nice job, Carol.

Don't ever think I'm annoyed by your musings/rambling about my poetry, Craig. You are right in both of your interpretations, although the second is quite a bit more oblique. I think that many things we encounter in life have duality, as few things are all good or all bad. Thanks so much for this review, which has to be the most interesting one I've had for this poem! Lovely poem, Carol. Such effective use of assonance to enhance the mood that you have created with your word choices. The sharp contrast between the rain that nourishes and the rain that destroys makes this a particularly memorable poem.

This is a very powerful poem. It changed so dramatically. At first I thought of all the pleasant thoughts of sound smell and sight that rain gives, and the wham , natural disaster. Nature both beautiful and destructive. Nature should be respected in this sense. Thank you for sharing this.

I still love the rain, but I hate to see heavy rain coming to areas that just burned - it is just so devastating. Thank you for reading, as always,
