Wonderful poem! I really commend you for choosing this topic. It needs more attention. There was an experiment done in a school regarding bullies. Two plants were set out exactly alike. Same food, light etc. They were protected from being physically touched but the children were instructed to speak kindly to one and hateful to the other. At the end of the experiment one plant was thriving and one was dying. Happy Holidays and well done.

Thank you. It is said and I believe it, that humans, animals and plants are not only alive, but the very earth itself is alive and responds to positive as well as negative stimuli.

Nomi--
This is well done but I don't feel...it is a big enough accomplishment for a six. Maybe that's dumb. But that's how I feel, plus too many "see" rhymes for me. Otherwise, fine, keep it up.

Best

Thank you. Without question or doubt, you are entitled to your opinion. Not everything is suitable to everyone, that is natural and a given. I am not offended by your statement. I respect and appreciate your honest opinion. Thank you.

I don't know how important this is, but years ago I went to a funeral of a father of a kid I knew through grade school and high school. I suspect that this man was pretty emotional because of his father's death. When this forty year old man saw me, he threw his arms around me and said, " My protector!" The several times that I may have stuck up for him against other kids was in grade school. If you can picture this, this guy at the funeral of his dad, was six foot six. I was maybe five foot ten at my tallest. In all honesty, I don't rembember the incidents the way my old classmate did. But I do remember this giant hugging me. School days, different days. Best wishes. (This is what your poem brought to mind.)

Thank you, that my poem had such an effect is humbling. No writer should ever ask for or expect anything better than to connect with at least one person who reads his work. I am both honored and humbled.

Nomi338, if everyone had the philosophy that you portray in you poem, the world would definitely be a better place. You are most welcome.

Love the "do it yourself" story you told, especially the "I used those rocks as building blocks, To build a dynasty." I'd like every kid from Kindergarten up to have a chance to read your poem and think about it, because poetry isn't just about rhymes, poetry is about truth. Good job.

Wow! I actually thought about the kids who are not equipped with what it takes to deal with the feeling of helpless isolation when confronted with a bully or bullies who are intent on ruining their lives. Nothing personal, just because the victim is alone and without the resources to fight back. On a personal not, even when I was outnumbered, I fought so fiercely that I was soon considered to be a target not worth the effort. Of course I was just crazy enough to not even feel the pain they might have inflicted. I was too intent on inflicting my own blows. I believe that most bullies are secret cowards who do not enjoy having pain inflicted upon themselves. and that they usually seek easy targets. I was never an easy target.

Thank you for telling me you were not an easy target. I abhor bullies. You are correct. Someone who gives as good as they get can defeat a bully.

Very good poem and picture. Being mean to others is something that everyone goes thru. Your school days will not last forever and the hurt will pass in time.

Thank you. The sad thing is, that a child going through the painful proves of being bullied often feels the sensation that for them, time has stood still and nothing will ever get better.

This is such an inspring poem. I have a story on a similar subject -- "In Search of an Identity." Yes, bullying is a terrible thing to happen to a child but I do beleive they have something special when they eventually overcome it. But then again, some are scarred for the rest of their lives.

Thanks Nomi for sharing.

Thank you. Of course there is no shortage of experiences or advice on how to endure being bullied. Everyone who is or has been bullied has a unique take on the subject and sadly what might work for someone else is not necessarily going to work for the next. What might work for me might get you beat up. My best advice is that if it comes to violence and it cannot be avoided, try to inflict the most pain you can in the time allowed to you and wear your bruises proudly. Bullies thrive on inert pillows who offer no resistance, only a fool punches a plant with thorns or stickers, that hurts.

The best thing one can do about an abusive childhood, or even adulthood, is to use the lesson to build a better world for themselves, and also help those that are less innovative in their own lives, and struggle to overcome. Well done, my friend, beautufully written in wisdom, blessings, Roy

Thank you Brother Roy. We do well to follow Jesus example of dealing with attempts at bullying. He relied always on his Holy Father, referencing and quoting scriptures at every turn.

nomi

Excellent words of encouragement of building mental and emotional toughness to resist shortcomings of insecure people projecting on others. Bullies are weaklings, they assert control over others, some out of cruelty, others because the can because they pitiful lives. The kids look from the back ground is a nice touch. Good job.

Thank you. My firm belief is that you can overcome the short comings of others by being mentally tougher than them, even when they are physically bigger.

It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the fight in the dog. An indomitable spirit overcomes all challenges. Always be brave.

Hi Nomi, This is a very relevant poem for today's children. I do hope it can be inspirational as well. Too many of our children today go the other way when they're bullied by others.

The recipe for success in the face of attempts at bullying is, I believe, be tougher and stronger mentally.

Thank you Dolly. Bigger and stronger people have been defeated because their intended victims were smarter and mentally tougher.
