I am speechless. "The voices will go away" but they don't. It shows how life can give you all these expectations but can not bring them to you. I feel almost a connection to you and your son. An amazing description of Schizophrenia.

This is an excellent poem and I sympathize with you. I'm sure you have checked with his psychiatrist. I worked in a psych hospital for a few years. There are many meds out there for this. Now there a once-a-month injectable that is supposed to be quite effective. Good luck in the contest and with your son's ailment. Marilyn

You're welcome. New meds are coming on the market. His doctor should know this and steer you in the right direction. Good luck with getting the help you need. Marilyn

A very well-written poem about mental illness that takes a lot of care taking when we know one of our family members suffer mental illness, to make sure they take their medication and know when it is time to take extra care.

I'm not to familiar with schizophrenia. I do know that it plagues the mind and causes a person to hear voices sometimes and talk to themselves. I appreciate you educating we the reader about this terrible condition. Great job and well done.

This is a very poignant poem. Plus, it is an important topic and message to share with others. Helping someone/or watching them try to survive through mental illness is not an easy task. You addressed some hefty emotions and it created a perfect contest entry. Good luck.

Hey, Anonymous Poet
If this is indeed biographical in nature I feel for you and your son.
Mental illnesses can be just as debilitating as any physical ailment that's more easily and readily seen.
Outwardly a person suffering from a myriad of mental illness appears completely normal.
But on the inside, a tumultuous storm rages within.
I should know, I suffer from PTSD and I am a diagnosed manic depressive.
I hope one day he's able to live a normal, happy and productive life.

Thank you for reading. Everything I wrote about is true. My so got sick just after high school graduation. I'm sorry you suffer as well. It's a constant battle to keep things under control, but thankfully the medication he takes helps. Thanks again for reviewing my poem.

This is such a terrible tragedy so well described and fearful for the sufferer and the career, the ups and downs of life are hard to deal with, but when you have these added problems then life must be a real challenge, well said with compassion and honesty, love Dolly x

Your description of life with your son is heart-wrenching, describing
the helplessness and frustration you sometimes feel--understandably.
Keep praying!
