Excellent writing. A wonderfully sinister narrative - the 'fedora' is a very light and deft touch as is the cobblestone street.
The vocabulary brings a medieval feel to it, which echoes in the narrator's underlying sentiments. Master of the elements.
Engaging and different - perhaps these are related.
