This is such a sweet and loving story, and every line bursts with pride for your niece. You told the story well, directly but with emotion, and without extraneous detail, and you even added a touch of your lovely sense of humor. You and Emily are lucky to have each other.

You're welcome, Rox, and she definitely sounds like a sweetie - and a perfect subject for a "What I'm proud of" story. She's accomplished an awful lot so far in her life, and who knows what's ahead?

This gives me hope for my granddaughter who cried all the time for the first ten months unless someone held her. Her brother, two years older, would retreat to his room, close the door and play with his cars. When growing up, she would punch him all the time, but he never hit back. At thirteen she's very assertive and expects her rich parents to buy her expensive electronics -and they do. Her brother is quiet and refuses to compete with her. They are both
advanced in school. Alex, now fifteen, is reading at college level. Anna tries to do him one better by learning a difficult language in an online course.
Be interesting to see how they turn out.
Your niece is more attractive than Anna. I enjoyed reading about her accomplishments. Brag away.
She's earned it.

I'm so glad you posted your story of being proud of Emily, even though you missed the contest deadline. How honored she must be to know you wrote about her. :) She does sound like a great person who will touch many lives in a positive way. I enjoyed your humorous intro. of her. Your author's notes about the wedding were so sweet.

I can identify with your brother in many.ways. I had great difficulty in giving away my elder daughter. She was born God's handmaiden, and remains that way today, it took two solid years of prayer, before I woke up one morning ad was freed from my possessiveness. Beautufully written, you are justifiably proud of your niece, and are allowed to boast, as I do it, without conscience. Well done, thanks for sharing, Rox, blessings, Roy

Thank you. I didn't say she and her hubby are also very dedicated Christians. The first thing they did before moving was go online and look for a church, listened to the pastors messages and chose one so they could start right away. very smart as they have made many friends that way. Thanks so much Roy.

Foxie,

Looks like an example of great minds again. *smile* I was thinking of entering this contest to brag on my amazing kids.

I enjoyed reading this piece and meeting your own amazing Emily. She sounds like she knew what she wanted from the very beginning and went after it with a single-minded intensity. Wow.

I only saw one nit:
1.) affect his job. He is very good at what he does and his business (is) thriving.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks so much Robyn. She loves school. In many ways she is like my mom. She loved school too and none of her kids did. She was so disappointed. She would also be amazed by Emily, but died when she was very young so she really never knew her.

A very well-written story about your niece who has become a fine young lady since she was a crying/screaming baby. Her academic accomplishments are amazing, surely someone to be proud of and you can feel honored that she think you are funny aunts. Most young people avoid their older aunts and family members.

Yes we are amazed they want to be with us. But we are young at heart and my sis does such dumb things all the time, they think it is hilarious. =} They are also such dedicated Christians and their first priority was to find a church when they moved. It helped ease things and they have made many good friends. Thanks so much Sandra.

She sounds like an amazing person. Maybe she will be the one who finds a cure for Cancer! Wouldn't that be wonderful.
