I like this it flows well, you thread properly through you free and the subject matter is important to me. Your message is true and I thank you for offering it in a poem. Good luck in the contest. Fonda

Excellent free verse poem and totem creatures is the perfect title as this is a totem pole of creatures.

I love the descriptions of all the animals and the slightly altered repeating line is most effective in linking each stanza together.

Wishing you much luck in the contest.

Gloria

Dear Gloria, thank you for your review and the five stars.Yes, the Totem pole concept was to the fore in my mind as I wrote this as they are my totem animals. We don't have wolves in Australia. We do have wild dogs though. They are called dingoes. they are beautiful, but fierce predators on sheep and other domestic creatures. We have owls and eagles in plenty, although the eagle is hunted out in the wild. The owl is my favorite. Its wide, silent wings and soft feathers are wonderful. I saved one from a flock of very angry seagulls once and picked it out from a box thorn bush where it had taken refuge. It was so soft and warm to touch and it didn't bite or attack me at all. We let it out as night fell and it spread its wings and was gone in a flash.
    Thanks again cheers Cass

Hello Anon, great poem, I really enjoyed it and it was very spiritual, but not conventionally so. Well done. And you are right, people are far less civilized than animals, who live on the earth without destroying its peace. These three animals are beautiful and you use their traits to good effect in this well written verse and the poem is a work I would recomment and best of luck with it in the competition. Cheers, and have a great day, Ana.

You're kidding right??? Man?? Remember??? How many wars have there been since the "war to end all wars?" How many mistakes have we repeated over and over and over yet again? We all know what an Atomic bomb does, yet everyone has to have one. Really??? Do you think man will ever really remember anything? I think it's wishful thinking myself but maybe my eternal optimism is failing me on this one. Maybe it's just that with the "Me Too" movement going so strong we still have Donald Trump as POTUS. If that's not a memory lapse I don't know what is.

Dear Susan, Thank you for your review and the five stars. This piece was written late at night after a day of thinking about animals. It wasn't until the next morning I realized I had an entry for this contest.Yes, I agree that it is a faint hope If not a vain one that Man will come to his senses in time to undo some of the damage done to our environment and the wild life it sheltered.
We cannot hope to erase all of the mistakes man has made, but if every person did their bit in their own back yard and sought to take care of their own trash, instead of leaving it for corporations to see to, it would make a difference. The seas wouldn't be choked with plastic and turtle and squid and other sea creatures wouldn't eat it mistaking it for their natural food.
From little things big things grow. Start small and lead by example not precept. Donald Trump as POTUS is a joke. We have had some lame ducks lead our country in Australia, but DJT stands alone as the biggest political clown of all time. IMHO cheers Cass

Dear Mystery Poet,

This is a truly thoughtful piece that is not only pleasing and enjoyable on the first level - and on the first reading, but gets more enjoyable with each successive perusal when new thoughts and concepts keep opening up. So nice!

I enjoyed! Thank you! Good luck!

Dear Robyn, Thank you for your review and the five stars. It surprises me when others find things within my words that I hadn't known were there. I immediately go back to it to see for myself what they have said. And I exclaim "Well goodness me" So thanks again for reading and commenting. I am glad you enjoyed this piece. cheers Cass

Hello unknown author for this No Restrictions Poetry contest is really good what got my attention of how man
is cruel in his pride
Spares not creatures wild and free.
Time will come to pay the price
And then, he may remember.

Very true Gert

Dear Gert, thank you for your review and the five stars. Your comments are spot on with your take on the verse about man.
No matter how we revere the wild life of our planet, if we don't conserve and save them they will not survive the habitat destruction and plunder of our natural resources. Thank you for reading and commenting cheers Cass

This is a wonderful write about the different creatures, how they've been treat, what they've seen, what they remember and your closing verse gives dramatic voice to the conclusion. I love the last line format and I wish you well in the contest.
cheers
