This is a beautiful poem! I absolutely love how the title was worked into the last verse of each stanza. I enjoyed the detail you wrote in each stanza, regarding the wolf. Mating, birthing, nurturing, teaching, hiding, hunting, dying ... all amazingly covered.
This is excellent! I wish you the very bet in the contest!

A very well-done offering for this 'wide open' competition -- like that you have chosen a topic that allowed to make the verse not only speak to the reader but carry through the reader's mind with the 'repeated' song of the wolf! :) ;) thanx for sharing and good luck in the contest! :)

What a lovely tribute to a glorious creature. You're right about man having a love-hate relationship with the wolf. They are respected, even loved. Perhaps it is because they so resemble the domestic dog. They are hated as well because, after all, their survival instincts are vicious. Their song that you refer to so beautifully is haunting and can strike fear in the heart. At the same time, wolves show gentleness and intelligence. There's no beast quite like them.
I love the rhythm and rhyme of your poem. Your words portray the wolf truthfully, with a heartfelt respect.
Very nice job.
