Hello Ms. Snyder
What an terrifying of what you call an adventurer was well described and had me very tense reading-- when your foot continued and was pressed as hard as it could to the brake. Gave me the feeling your brakes were Not Working, Gert

    Dear Ms. Sherwood,
First, I am taken aback from by you reading my story. Second, when noting that you have such a large body of work yourself I am even more mystified, You have reviewed so many authors, writers, and poets and now you have found my work. I am so humbly honored by your positive review. I know that I set out to make it a thrill and chill read. I am glad that it was received by someone of your caliber in writing to note that you were tense. Thank you for the review. I am very grateful. Cheers, Fonda

A vehicle carrying a heavily loaded trailer is difficult to bring under control. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read. Good luck in your contest.

    Hi c_lucas,
I looked at your profile and see that your name is Charlie and that you are a very rewarded writer on this forum. I appreciate the time you took to read such a long story for this contest which has ended. I didn't place. It is okay; as I am getting my footing here, and trying to feel my way around. I also have been trying to decide what I will present in the future. I think it will be mostly poetry, but I wanted to take a stab at a true story. I appreciate your comments about it being smooth and well written. Coming from you that means a lot! So thank you for your feedback and positive review. Cheers, Fonda

I am having to deal with medical problems at the moment. If you are new at posting, stick with what you know. It will reward you in the end.

This story is very informative and descriptive. I like when you point out how beautiful this place was and also gave warnings such as pile ups during winter and fog that can affect high profile vehicles driving to Cajon Pass, and you also use descriptive words to make readers visualize what you experienced in the past that's good, sorry that you went through this.

Well, Ms. Snyder..that was quite a harrowing experience. At least you finally did find out what had caused the accident.
Good luck in the contest ;o)

That was so nice of your friend Tom to help you move, Fonda.
That's quite a distance too--all the way from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Illinois. Quite a gentleman.
I'll bet you were scared sh!tless dangling over the precipice of the canyon the way you were. Those moving trucks can be a bit tricky to drive, especially if they're equipped with a manual transmission and air brakes.
It's funny how a mutually dangerous scenario and precarious situation can bring people closer together.
It was the same way for me and my fellow Marines, once we returned home safely after having gone through combat in Grenada.
Those guys became my brothers.
Great story, thanks for sharing.
~Dean

    Hi Dean,
Yes my friend Tom is a saint. No actually he is a hoser! He is my best friend still to this day (more like a brother). A gentlemen to me, but to other women - I don't know sometimes... I get to share all the reviews and replies with him - he will get such a kick out of this one. I was a little scared when we were heading down the hill - but when you get to know me - you will find that it takes a lot to scare me. Yes on the mutually dangerous scenarios - we've been through hell together. We are super close. I am so glad you appreciated the story and I am thankful that you were able to take time from your creative frenzy to read such a long one. I probably won't post anything that lengthy again. I really appreciate your support and I have made everyone that I meet make sure they know that I am a huge fan of yours - so hopefully you are getting new fans and they are dropping my name! When I get a review from someone of your caliber it reinforces why I took the leap back in November to join Fan Story - so thank you for helping me to grow and gain confidence as a writer. Cheers, Fonda

Ah, you give me far too much credit, Fonda, sincerely. But having said that, I deeply appreciate the fact that you feel that way.
I don't mind at all reading lengthier posts if they hold my interest.
    This one did!
Just keep at it, the length be damned. Allow the characters in your story to tell you when to stop, not the other way around.
You do that you'll be a success, I guarantee it.

Hi Ms. I am familiar with the Cajon Pass as I lived in the mountains above Palm Springs, Idyllwild, CA for 10 years. We were a mile up the mountain (affectionately called "the hill"). Very few guard rails. Motorcyclists were notorious for careening off the mountain when not making a tight curve on the narrow two-lane roads. You've expressed your story very well. Good luck in the contest. Marilyn

Dear Marilyn, (BeasPeas), Thank you for your positive review of my story Cajon Pass. I appreciate the time you took to read such a long story. I also am grateful for your praise and comments. The contest has ended and I didn't place. It's is okay because the story has received all time best and it will be the only long story I place in Fan Story. I know where Idyllwild, CA is as Lewis Homes had built some homes there in the 80's. They were a prominent builder in Vegas and I had done some work for them as a teenager. Cheers. Fonda

What a scary but relevant story to those who tow. In this age there are many accidents caused by towing, especially if the weight of the tow vehicle is lighter than the trailer. I enjoyed reading about your lucky escape and is a timely message for those who tow trailers with too much weight. Thanks for sharing your story.
Cheers, kev

You really do a good job explaining what you were feeling all those years ago when this incident occurred. Even if you wrote these events in your journal, you were still able to pick up on those emotions thirty years later and let your reader see what you were experiencing.

I live at the foot of scenic Fort Mountain, which over the years has accumulated a rate of two tombstones every mile. I had one bad trip, with a single-axle utility trailer which gave me a negative loading on the truck and caused wild looping and swooping...your story sent me down memory lane...excellent post, and fitting for the prompt.
