Hello there, my friend, this is a fantastic Senryu poem you've penned here. A most heartbreaking story of human nature. The picture is horrifying which pairs well with this piece. A very sad story about Kevin Carter taking his own life as well. You certainly did your research on this. Well done, and good luck in the contest.

Sadly the dark side of humanity prevails .

It hurts to look at that picture ..we don't realise how lucky we are .. We are safe ,we have food and those that we love ..

That child had nothing and no future.

There is no justice in this world.

A warm thank you for giving the poem a six star vote.

This senryu, The Innocent, presented as a 5-7-5, gives a real look at the state of the world as our fat cats wait to see who's lies we choose to believe today.

Thanks Bill Schott for your insight ..

Sadly the dark side of humanity prevails...those that could make a difference are only interested in filling their own pockets.

The photo of the child made a big impact on me when I saw it years ago .. I saw it again two weeks ago on Internet and wanted to post it with a poem close to Christmas ...

...as a reminder that the spirit of Christmas has nothing to do with spending stacks if money on gifts and elaborate meals ...

....It's about reaching out to those less fortunate ..doing social work , helping a neighbour or making a donation ..

If everyone chips in some good can be accomplished.

The Senryu despite its restricted format is used to great effect here to portray the harsh reality of life on our so-called 'civilised' planet - such an effective pic

I saw the picture years ago and it really made an impression on me...as did the statistics then ..every minute a child died of hunger.

I saw the picture again a couple of week ago and I wanted to use it as Christmas neared ..The senryu is a poem that talks about Human Nature.. sadly the dark side of mankind prevails...greed and profit at any cost.

The true spirit of Christmas is about people helping others and not spending crazy amounts of money buying gifts and planning rich meals ..I just wanted us to all stop and remember those less fortunate that are suffering ..offer to do some social work maybe or make a donation or simply say a pray .

Thank you for the shiny 6 star vote.

I fully concur with your sentiment, but I'm bothered by 'our leaders'.
This suggests bear no responsibility. This is not true.
Each one of us can do more. Pointing fingers serves no one's purpose.
Tell us how to help.

Peace, Lee

Our leaders should be working towards the good of HUMALITY yet they are focused on their own single agendas..a good example is global warming and serious issue for several decades.

When Mr. Trump was elected he had the guts to say that global warming was a joke ..that it did not exsist. Why ? If we exclude the possiblity that he is just nuts then the only reason he said such an outrages statement is because leaving open certain industries , that damage our atmophere, is more profitable than shutting them down and finding alternatives.

Those in power can make the most impact but they don't...those in power in Africa just fill their pockets while their country wages in war and their people die of hunger and desease.

But that of course doesn't mean we should not do our part

I totally agree ..we too can all make a difference ..even doing social work is important and is a great example of the true spirit of Christmas ..helping others less fortunate.

Thank you for reviewing my wee poem.

I am sorry I do not have a six for this outstanding work! Thank you for this. I consider myself a special person in that I am very sensitive to things like this. This is hard to even look upon and not be stirred. I am glad to say I am involved in relief efforts all over the place. Although, it feels like a drop in the ocean of tremendously need. I appreciate you giving your pen to this and for using your gifting to make a difference.
All my best,
Sally

I appreciate that you reviewed my wee poem ..I saw the picture years ago and it made a deep impression on me.... strangely I re saw it a couple of weeks ago..I wanted to post it close to Christmas because I feel that sadly people get so wrapped up in Christmas buying and planning elaborate meals and that the real meaning of Christmas is lost.

Christmas should be a time of giving , helping those that are less fortunate is a great start ..so you have my admiration ..you are doing a very important work.

I hope you have fruitful weekend.
