My gosh, is there no end to the horror?! What has the world come to when we wake up everyday to another disaster on the news! It's froghtening and tragic and your poem hit this home, with its raw honesty. The first stanza is particularly powerful because it's just spot on- love will always prevail and we will always feel fresh shock with every new tragedy. A good little poem expressing things that need to be said. I love the artwork used as well- very harrowing and poignant for this piece x

Every day of every week out of every month on the calendar it seems as if yet another tragic mass shooting takes place in this country.
It is getting to the point where it's becoming ridiculously frequent.
Too frequent to be mere happenstance, if you get my drift.
I wouldn't put it past the shadow government sponsoring these shootings in order to push for the removal of weapons from the homes and possession of America's law abiding citizenry.
Would you?
If we are capable of staging 9/11 a few mass shootings and murders are a piece of cake.
The first thing Adolf Hitler did in Germany when he took power was to disarm her citizens.
We all know how well that turned out, don't we?

It does not require an overly suspicious mind to arrive at the conclusion that desperate people will go to any lengths to accomplish their goals. This is especially true when they appeal to a constituency that are triggered by a few patriotic buzz words that make them respond like Pavlov's trained pups.

Hi Nommi338. A powerful poem that tell the truth of the story. There lies the problem not letting go of the guns. It seems no matter how loud the huon cry is Guns are always available a problem never probably to be resolved. But I did like your poem Cheers Christine

Hello Christine. I really appreciate your kind and supportive comments. Have a pleasant day and try to avoid places like libraries, schools, movie theaters, churches, etc. LOL.

I LOVE this piece for the poignant and powerful message. I am so sad every time I turn the news on and hear "again" and "again" the same type of story. When will it end? Your last stanza is one that should make readers ponder our current laws and what message that's sending to the public!!!

Cindy, I thank you for your wonderfully supportive comments. As seriously sad as the subject is, it is heartwarming to me as the author to know that I reached someone with what I wrote.

Very pleasing read, creatively composed, flourished in thought-provoking views, compelling at least to my interests. I found this an excellent conveyance, all in my opinion.

Very good nomi338
of how you wrote your free verse poem about the crazed Gunman kills 12 in 'horrific' mass shooting at Thousand Oaks bar packed with college students.

Thank you Gert. I would have much rather written about school children going on a lark through a shaded park.

It must of been a difficult subject to write about, well done.

I concur with your sentiments. When will it end? Do we just take it as a way of life, pointing to the Second Amendment to pacify our grief?

We cling to our guns
Sadly, shake our heads

Yes, all we do is sadly shake our heads. Gun-control was hardly an issue on the ballot.

Well written. I hope you get a lot of readers out of this one.

Thank you, I already have. It is heart warming to read all the comments. So far not one person has come out with a negative comment about the content.

That ex gyrene should have joined the SWAT team, so he could shoot people legally...the media and government have power enough to overwhelm the second amendment so neither bullets nor ballots can restrain big government...so much for the American dream...excellent verses...

Hey Red, I hear you. Sadly it's not just about votes with our politicians. It comes down to dollars, NRA dollars and the dollars of all the gun dealers and the dollars of all those who selfishly want guns that kill many quickly.

You have written a touching expose/poem that addresses the carnage of these senseless killings. Your meter and rhyme are good as well your descriptive lines. Well done.

Hey, hey Sugar Ray. I wrote it but now the question is, does anybody with the power to do something about fixing the problem even care?

This poem, As We Count Our Dead, presented in five-syllable-line quatrains, captures yet another horrendous massacre meant to bring one sick person into our consciousness. If only they would get it right and shoot themselves first. Hopefully when Trump is drawn and quartered the tone of the country will slide back to only somewhat nuts.

Bill, Bill. Just when I have decided to consider you more Ned than Pons, you go and write something brilliant like this. You are not nearly as crazy as I at times think you are. Right on my crazy as hell retired Marine buddy.
