This is an excellent written story of a tragic story of a woman that was basically a newlywed, her husband had to go to war and died in battle not even knowing that he had a baby on the way. Never had the opportunity to raise the child or see their child. You could feel the pain through this poem.
Great job, this is a strong poem.

This is very touching, and a very worthy entry in the Empathy with Grief contest. Your empathy comes through in your ability to visualize what the widow went through, and to hear her cries. The stanza about the young daughter "planting
pink roses on her daddy's grave, without a notion how or where he died" was particularly moving.

This is a beautiful tribute to the women who were widowed during WW1. As a fellow poet, may I make a suggestion? Do you feel that the poem may improve if in the last verse it is the daughter who comes and weeps for the father she never knew? Or if you want it to be all about the widow, perhaps say where the daughter is now? I feel as if I'm looking for the little girl and wonder where she is and what happened to her. The poem is lovely as it is though, the artwork is beautiful. Well done cheers Cass

I really want to focus on the widow whose grief is unending. I think the daughter loses interest in the father she never met. . . but I could be very wrong.
