"Yes, Bangkok," she mused. "That is where it started..."
Ah, Bangkok! A lot going on there, not all of it good, eh? This is a well written chapter, but the next one promises to be even better as we find out more from Madame. Your writing is detailed, clear, and interesting. A good read. Marilyn

Ahh, Tony, so now we're coming to Bangkok. I have been waiting for the connection. This is not only great writing, but it's also a great story. So he admits to loving Helen in a rather round about way. I think I would have been a bit miffed as well. I love the story. All the best. Ulla:))

Thanks, Ulla. It's not just Madame Durand musing! I need do a bit of thinking, too, to straighten out in my mind the Bangkok end of the story! Poor old Charles. He's certainly showing himself to be a bit inept in matters of the heart!

So now we know how Bangkok plays into this story. Good job, Tony. I enjoyed reading this chapter. I wasn't sure how the 2 women would react. You did a good job leading up to that point. This chapter has a lot of info and intrigue. Good ending, too. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Excellent continuation of the story with this instalment. It flows very organically and deepens the plot no end. A real nice end.

Useless fact of the day. The last guillotining on France was in 1977! Star Wars had already been in the cinemas when people were still being beheaded.

You may jest, but without the help of Henri and his redoubtable mutt, Bonaparte, we'd have been in dire trouble. Anyway, who's Jean? - all of this needs to be in speech marks.

Jean was by now making noises that suggested she would rather like to be released. - lol, thank you for the understatement Charles...

The French do have gender problems. For example, half the fellows are called Marie or have it as part of their name. If you ask me it all stems from applying gender to inanimate objects like doors and houses, but the reason I am going on about it here is Madame Durand. Surely her given name would be Jeanne as Jean is a boy's name or that part of it that isn't Marie is. Jean = John, and Jeanne = Jean at least I think so. Merde!

One of these days we will get to the bottom of this mystery but probably only when Tintin and Snowy appear on the scene. This was thoroughly enjoyable fun - as usual.

You're right about the name - not a common girls' name in France - but it does occur. I took it from a list of French babies' names on the internet. I should probably replace it with something a bit more obviously French though. Janine, perhaps.

Hi, Tony,

This story continues to fascinate me. I love that you have made a point of educating folks about the French Mafia. It does seem that each country has a mafia of sorts - and some only point to the Italians, or maybe the Russians.

The pace of the story is great, and you've created three-dimensional characters.

Looking forward to more,

A nit,

'...curled up in a foetalfetal position on the back seat.'

Thanks, Patty. Glad to hear you're finding the characters are becoming well fleshed out. 'Foetal' is a British-English spelling. We seem to like keeping the redundant, useless letters derived from first origins! A bit like appendixes...

That was a very revealing chapter. Not only have we found out Charles is in love with Helen, she learnt it too, lol. But, on the serious side, we find out that she and Jean are involved in something that could get them all killed. Now we are hoping to find out what they've been up to, and can Charles protect them? I tend to agree with Charles on that one, Helen's training will probably be used to save him! lol. Excellent writing, and I couldn't spot any nits. I look forward to the next part and finding out what's going on! :)) Sandra xxx

A very well-written chapter and it seems there is finally some results after all the action in the previous chapter. The information they needed seem to be revealed soon and then the advenutre will come to an end with the great prize.

Your story is full of interesting characters. You might proceed with a measured pace but when things heat up your characters react. Helen sounds like she could take on the bad guys and leave them in the dust. And now Mrs. Durant just shakes herself off and is ready to take on the mob. Unexpected action. Good chapter, Tony.

Nice development of characters from the last chapter. The plot is build up the tension withe introduction of the French mob. I looked up foetal and found it's the English spelling of fetal.
