Personally, I have very libertarian views. I think that we need less government involvement as opposed to more. I believe we also need to concentrate on our own problems in our own nation rather than those of other countries.

That being said, I love how you stepped up and said what was in your heart on this issue.

I especially liked your line:

"A tyrant does not appear overnight. He is granted small permissions first, pushes boundaries, changes accepted precedents. There is an escalation."

I believe that this is an exceptional point. A lesson many need to learn because they simply do not know or understand it.

Keep fighting the good fight and speaking your mind! There is much others could learn if they just paid a little more attention.

What a letter! Yes, America certainly has some problems, but that is what happens when a country has too much power, it goes corrupt, same as a man who has too much power goes corrupt. This is the way it has always been and always will be. Learn from history, you stupid people!

    Thanks for reviewing.

Indeed it is wise to learn from history, but it doesn't much help the individual who sees his country being torn apart by forces beyond his control.

It is hard indeed. There has to be something that can be done to reverse this. America is such a great and beautiful country! It's not right that the few corrupt at the top get to destroy everything our ancestors worked so hard for.

This is a well-written and planned essay. I too don't know why more people don't see it. I have heard good Christian Pastors say they really don't like him but they think he's doing the right thing. I can't believe what they're saying, Trump, is one of the biggest bigots in America. Three-fourths of his staff are White Nationalists, who are KKK members in fine suits. This election looms large and Trump has thrown so much money into it under assumed causes. I'm really more worried about his second term than this one. I think the true dictator will come out. Thanks for the warning!

Have a great day and God bless.

    Thanks, Mike.

Yes, it is difficult to imagine how Christians can show such support for Trump. My own sister-in-law actually believes he has been anointed by God as some sort of saviour of the American people. Why God would anoint such a person, and why Trump would continue to behave in such a divisive, hateful manner after being anointed is beyond my comprehension!

There will be no second term. I really believe he will face impeachment or be forced to resign before this term is over.

Beautifully put, Steve. I hope the call to arms is taken up. I wonder if there will be an understanding that unprecedented scenes of negative action against the President are not owing to spiteful leftie whiners but are the result of the man himself. Great selection of literature to make the point at the end.

    Thanks, Emma.
Today's vote will tell some sort of story, I guess. I hope the call to arms isn't taken too literally. I am sure there will be record numbers turning out, so if Trump has accomplished anything of worth, it might be that!

The point you make about the cause of protests seems so obvious - he is a hateful and hate-filled man who thrives on the chaos around him. The great paradox is that the greater the opposition, the more he can stir up his own demented followers!

I've read some of the reviews you had for this. I particularly liked the one which told you off for being a 'foreigner' getting involved in their business. Pots and Kettles, Kettles and Pots...

I liked this and it was very well written. I see how this can be seen as a plea to the American public to make changes to the current administration. I love the reference to the Crucible. Very well done. Keep writing.

Hi, Steve,

Thank you so much for writing this inspiring piece. I only wish I was reading it in some spot of higher visibility. I imagine we will find out today just how much folks in America care. I would love to see the numbers of voter turn out to be higher than ever.

I usually write to each of my senators and congressman on average once a month. I have no idea of the impact my letters and emails may have, but I know I feel better voicing my opinions.

I hope your missive will inspire more of the American FanStorians to take heed,

~MP~

Pattyt, thanks so much for the review and the encouraging words.

Yes, I know many, many Americans are doing their best to use the democratic system the way it should be used. Well done you for your letter-writing. Who knows when such ripples may turn into a giant wave?

Good luck for the vote today.

On November 7th, I hope there will have been a return to sanity. It's been like watching a reality show these last few years, and I do hate reality shows. They are so fake. I always thought the beauty of this country is its diversity. We are a nation of immigrants and should act like one.
I will read and re-read your piece on November 6th. It will get me through the day. Thank you.

Sandra, thanks for your kind comments and the generous gift of stars. I believe Trump's mother was an immigrant, arriving in the USA in 1930 and becoming a citizen in 1942... You wouldn't know it, would you!

Interesting. Interesting reviews, as well. Now I read that we have caravans because the criminal gangs have so much power in central America, people are trying to escape. Fermi's paradox, and Hanson's filter, and Malthus...makes a honky boy want to sail off to Australia or New Zealand..."but de rock cried out, no hidin' place"

Well, NZ is as good a hiding place as any!

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I am just a little stunned that so many people still support this nasty, narcissistic fool.

O Steve ....you have a type_o in your opening....the double dear just throws the whole thing out of whack. You should always proof read before releasing...this like letting wind must be done discreetly or risk turning folk off. His name is President Trump....leader of thr Free World again. Thanks for the review, Michael. Possibly a little harsh to knock me down to 2 stars for what you consider to be a typo. Unless there is something else about my writing that you found unsatisfactory?

There is no typo in fact. 'Dear, dear' is quite a common expression indication dismay and/or concern. I used it partly for that reason and also because I already have a post titled 'Dear Americans'

As for neglecting to use his title, I felt that I had been remarkably respectful. There are many worse things I could have called him simply by following his own example of how to address people. Would you like me to compile a little list? We could start with his public rant at the President of another nation, calling him 'Rocket-Man'...

You have written an excellent essay. One that honors the freedom that we have today and the many lives it cost. Although you show a dislike of our leader, he has done nothing do this country but improve economics, jobs, trade, and trying to reform immigration not stop it.. The media tells a different tale then again that's freedom Good job

Thank you for the measured response and the generous gift of stars even though you disagree with my assessment of Donald Trump.

Of course I disagree with your words that he has only improved the country. I am fairly sure you will discover the truth for yourself once this plays out a little longer.
