I didn't understand this poem at first, but then I reread it and I get it! I never really thought about winter taking over summer so it can be in charge. This is a very creative take on seasons, considering there is a lot of seasonal poetry out there. Great writing!

Interesting photo to accompany this.
Sounds like Florida. We have no Fall but go straight to Winter (without snow) but when temperatures drop to the fifties and lower, that's COLD.
Good use of personification. I like the choice of verbs: slammed and drains.

A very well-written poem about the transition from summer to winter. It is someties sad to leave the warm fundays behind and step into the colder winter weather that seems to last forever.

Clever personification, superb word economy, superb imagery, superb alliteraiton and consonance, fine syllable count and form. Sounds great read aloud, which is not easy to achieve with a tanka. Bravo. No nits. Fine presentation.

Right? That's wxactly what my haiku yesterday was written about. Great minds think alike. Love the rich language and vibrant image. The content and theme both made for an excellent read. Great poem, writer. Thanks for sharing. ;-)

This speaks the truth, if you come early, expect early wish of coming winter, it never comes, but per diurnal process of Nature, it visits; in life, we too experience the same, lackluster falls; well said, well done. Keep Writing -- DR ALCREATOR

I liked your title and was surprised to view the dramatic picture as I scrolled down the screen. Your description of the change of seasons in this tanka-like poem is intensified by your compelling use of personification and alliteration. Cheers- Joan

This is great. Very imaginative to use the two white dogs to illustrate winter grabbing at the throat of the next season. This would have been a great contest entry.
