Excellent
Not yet exceptional. When the exceptional rating is reached this is highlighted

The first thing I noticed - even ahead of reading your poem - was the directional nature of the text structure into three left arrows, matching your chosen photo. I presume this is intentional (even if not SAY it was) and if so it's another layer to the work and symbolizes the relentless march of some species (eg The Driver Ants of Africa) searching for food.

Reading your poem I see more imagery of relentless pushing forwards by the ants furthering the whole package in the mind's eye.

"Knowing the harvest will mean life..."

Exactly. Nice work.

The words being a trailing of the ants in their pathways was the intent of the word placement, Bill -- but, as an author, I am thrilled at the many interpretations that result from any of my works! :) :) So glad you enjoyed this piece as I certainly enjoyed writing it -- was focused on a trailing of ants out on the front porch on their way to/from a dead katydid in the corner...sounds icky, I guess, but they really are such fascinating things to watch!! :) :) Thanx so much for stopping by and have a great week ahead of finding lots of fascinating things to trigger your pen's imagination! :) :)
