This is a lovely thought, but one I cannot abide by because I just don't see it. Things are too dire to smile at a baby's laughter. To me that makes me mourn for the uncontrollable future this poor child will have to endure.

You're basically right. Contrariness is sort of like lingual calisthenics. But I do have to be pretty miserable to come up with that in the first place--

Excellent entry, and best of luck. It is true we so many bad things going on in the world. We can let them sink us in despair, but as you mention a good attitude and hopeful heart can get us through those times. Small things like a baby's laugh or meeting an old friend can bring us some joyful experiences. Good thought to think about. Your rhyme and word choices are well done, too. Beautiful poem. judi
