This is a gorgeous love poem Craig, without the schmulz but with plenty of humour and love shining through. I'm sure your, less than smoot, saint loved this one as I did.
cheers,
valda

Many thanks, Valda. I was hoping to avoid the saccharine, so I'm glad that it came across that way to you :) Most grateful for the lovely comments, Craig

Hi, Craig,

A very cute poem. A smoot is five feet, seven? Wow, I'm only five foot - is there a special word for that?

This is a wonderful entry in the Love Poem contest and I wish you luck. Thank you for sharing another of your new words with us,

~MP~

    Yes, short! lol

I seem to have a thing for ladies considerably shorter than myself. Life partner #1 was 5'2". Life partner #2 is 5'3". God forbid it goes any further. At this rate, I'll be up to life partner #11 before we see eye-to-eye ;-)

Thanks for the great review :)

What a charming poem this is. I like the "sassy" tone to it. It rolls along nicely from line to line. Good rhyming. I like the new word, "smoot." Good luck in the contest. Marilyn

The story behind smoot brought a smile to my face, Marilyn. If you have a minute to spare, Google it, and have a look at the Wikipedia article, or just scroll back through these reviews :) Many thanks.

okay, Craig, this is the BEST! :) I just don't have words to tell you how your rhythm and chosen words literally lifted my mood for the day -- your words are not forced, they're simply 'you' and they are 'spoken' with such ease that one has a vivid image of the two of you kinda 'shoving each other' back and forth in jest as she glows with your statements of love (veiled, maybe, but it is so very much there!! :) :) :) She sounds like such a wonderful joy and I'm so very glad you still have each other!!
This would get my vote, bar none! :) Thanx for sharing and good luck in the contest! :) Yvette

I like this one CD. The 8/7 rhythm and the abcb rhyme made this poem an easy read and one that should fare well in the
Love Poem poetry Contest. It is a fun read and should do well! :) Nancy

The wife who corrected me for forty four years was five feet tall and went through four careers before deciding that routine millwork was easiest...excellent poetic tribute to the woman...

Thank you so much. I've discovered that size has little to do with who wins :) Cheers, Craig

Those are lovely sentiments, Craig. It's such a whimsical love story. Love your photo. Gets me exciting about my upcoming cruise that I mentioned to you.

I am curious about what a smoot is all about. Who needs something that is five feet seven inches. It must have been the size of something. Otherwise the length would not have gotten its own word.

    Hi Debbie,

How long until you cast off?

I love how the word smoot came about. This is taken from Wikipedia:

The smoot /ˈsmuːt/ is a nonstandard, humorous unit of length created as part of an MIT fraternity prank. It is named after Oliver R. Smoot, a fraternity pledge to Lambda Chi Alpha, who in October 1958 lay down repeatedly on the Harvard Bridge (between Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts) so that his fraternity brothers could use his height to measure the length of the bridge...

One smoot is equal to Oliver Smoot's height at the time of the prank, 5 feet 7 inches (1.70 m). The bridge's length was measured to be 364.4 smoots (2,035 ft; 620.1 m) plus or minus one ear, with the "plus or minus" intended to express uncertainty of measurement.

A very well-written poem about meeting the love of your life many years ago and still the best thing that happened in your life. A great love poem told in a beautiful fun way.

This poem shows how love can start very easily. It sounds like she is sassy and strong though she is short. It sounds like a good couple has started here.
Is the picture supposed to be the ship she came in in?

Keep writing

Joan
